F150 rotors

I've got a '14 F150 4wd and it's time for brakes. They don't make rotors with the meat on 'em that they used to, but they should be good for one turn, which is normally what I'd do. But... since I've just bought my first TT, and I live in the CO mountains, I think I'd feel better going with new rotors.

Has anyone had good luck with a particular brand that are reasonably priced?

On my truck forum, our resident expert recommends Brake Best brand.

I don't turn rotors unless they were damaged (slightly). In the past, I replaced factory rotors with HD slotted rotors on my tow vehicle.

I wouldn't hesitate to take one good turning on my rotors as long as the operator stayed in the guidelines stamped on the rotor. Now that I think about it, has anyone ever seen a rotor come apart on the highway? I did see a broken brake drum on an old MGB/GT I believe, but that was 40 years ago.

A lot of people on the ecoboost forum recommend powere stop pads and rotors. I think the part number z36. They are highly recommended for towing and that's what I'll be putting on my 13 when it comes time to replace mine.

Why not just buy factory motorcraft parts? HD payload factor rotors for your truck are $75 bucks each.

Nice price on those kits for a cross drilled rotor.

I have the Power Stop Z36 rotors, brake pads and front calipers on my Ford. They are head and shoulders above the originals in stopping power plus in almost 30K, over half of it towing, the pads show minimal wear and zero wear on the rotor while the original rotors were well worn with a heavy ridge on the outer circumference at 65K miles and 2 set of pads. Motorcraft brake parts are good pieces, just not the best, IMO, for heavy towing duty.

Yes to the rotor failure! About 4 years ago I was with my son in his Expedition when a aftermarket rotor lost a 3" chunk. Front right. I will never install parts store Chinese rotors. I have always received the best and longest service from OE brake parts.

It's not catastrophic failure I'm concerned about. Its just less material as far as heat and potential warpage.

The Power Stop rotor/pad kit from 4Wheel Parts is less $$ than stock rotors alone, and so far I've only read good things.

That's the reason I won't have customers rotors turned. Around here the practice seems to be "look at the minimum thickness, turn them to that, and send them back". 90% of my customers that did that prior to coming to me had their brakes only last a short time.

The HD payload package on the F150 up to model year 2014 is a seven lug design. So the Ford hd disk will not work on a non HD optioned truck.

I would also look at EBC pads and rotors as an option.

I have been researching rotors and pads for awhile. Powerstop are at the top of the list. Wilwood is my favorite, but availabilty for TV's is very limited.

I have also used EGR brakes in the past with good results.

http://egrbrakes.com/

I would not turn the rotors and I use Valvoline synthetic DOT 4 fluid for a higher boiling point (not to be confused with incompatible DOT 5 fluid).

On older vehicles, I also like to change the rubber brake lines to braided stainless lines. If you don't plan to keep the vehicle for a long period of time, then save your money on this one.

Brake fluid should also be flushed and changed every couple of years before it turns to a Merlot-looking, water-saturated and corrosion-inducing mixture.

Desert185, FYI if you're looking to pull the trigger 4 Wheel Parts is 10% off list plus 25% more of right now. Came to by far the lowest I found.

I run the power stop Z36 rotors and pads and for the money I've been really happy with them. I also use valvolene synthetic brake fluid. Dan
