Trunion WD hitches
Looking at a 10K/1K TW trunion bar hitch setup for the 28' trailers we're considering. Between the friction style Curt/Fastway/Equalizer setups (apples to apples comparison) what the heck is the difference other than up to 50% price?
Some of the Reese SC photos I've seen show a triangular shaped frame bracket which I really like and would pay a little more for (looks as though it would be less prone to wiggling or coming loose) while other photos show a style the same as the other three...

I'm not exactly sure what you are getting at, but they all have some sort of feature that they think is best and price their hitches accordingly. I have a round bar setup with a friction anti sway control that mount son separately on the side..its the one with the long piece of metal that slides in and out etc. After the first year, I decided one of those friction deals on one side of the trailer wasn't enough, so I went the cheap route and added one on the other side. And it does help to have them both.
On the flip side if I had to do it all over again, I'd pay the extra and get the reese trunniun with sway control. I've found more people than not that like those. In the end it would have been worth the extra money, because its not that easy to resale a used lower end hitch.
Just my .02 cents.

I have the Equalizer 10K and love it. No problems with sway when towing my 2810BH that is 32' tip to tail.

Also have the Equalizer 10k hitch and love it, very easy to use and works very well with no issues.

I have the same and my only complaint is it is harder to fine tune for weight changes than the others. But it really handles sway well.

I have the Reese SC 15,000 if you have any questions. I use that in conjunction with a sway bar. My rig is around 10k lbs with 1,500 tongue weight.

To clarify what I posted earlier, I wanted to say reese dual cam with sway control. I just couldn't think of the name. Equalizer also seems to be a oft mentioned name when talking about recommended hitches. To further add to what I wrote about mine, which is just a pro series round bar with 2 friction sway controls on it, I also need to find a longer drop shank. This isn't an issue with the hitch itself, but rather when we purchased we had a different vehicle driving it off the lot, than we have towing it now. It's close enough that I've used it without issues...it just could be better, but alas I am out any more room for adjustment.
There in lies the rub. You try to spend less, but end up spending more. Shanks are not overly expensive, but its enough that after adding the second sway control, and replacing the first one so I would have 2 of the same right off the bat, I don't want to spend the extra money on it. Especially because while better, I might not really feel any difference overall.
Point is, pick a good one, spend the extra money, and you will be happier.

The way it was explained to me is:
The friction sway control stops the sway once it begins
The cam sway control prevents sway from ever starting
So, when we bought our new trailer, rather than purchase a new WD hitch and sway control, I am useing the Reese cam sway control I bought back in 1987 to pull a 10,000# trailer. The one we have now is only 6,000#. We have no trouble at all with sway. You can feel it in very windy conditions, but it's still easy to control.
