Our first Passport 3290bh
We have had a 29' Cherokee camper for 3 years now. We traded it in for a 2014 Passport 3290bh. We don't take delivery until the end of March. My question is to everyone would the passport sway more or about the same as the camper we currently have? I have a Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab with rear air bags and currently use Pro Series friction sway control. I don't use a WD hitch. I have no issues with sway on my camper. I have got lot of experience towing boat trailers but nothing quite as long as this passport. I didn't know if i need to change my setup since the passport is about 5' longer and 800 lbs heavier.

Congratulations on the new rig. I can't imagine Towing a TT that size without a WD hitch. I strongly recommend it especially while Towing with a 1/2 ton. The tongue weight of this trailer (around 1100 lbs loaded) along with cargo/passengers in the truck will likely significantly exceed your trucks payload rating. Also keep in mind the trailer is 37' long. Do you have 10ply load range E tires on the truck?
I'm not trying to bash your purchase but nothing is worse than a white knuckle experience on the trek to a relaxing trip. I have done that more times than I care to admit. You may find yourself upgrading to a 3/4 ton.

I agree. Our 303bhssr took 3 trips to the scales to get very comfortable towing with a 3/4 ton. I am still upgrading to a Hensley because with this long TT in the wind, and highway trucks passing, I want the best insurance policy for sway.

If I was the dealer I would not allow to leave the lot without a WDH. It's a safety item that protects you and the rest of the motoring public. That size of trailer might need 2 anti sway bars. Have you talked to the dealer about those things.

We have a passport 2650bh that is 5' shorter then your 3290bh that we pull with a 1/2 ton GMC. Personally, I wouldn't want to try to pull it without a WDH. The equalizer hitch we have also has friction sway control. Of course that's just my 2 cents, so take it for what it's worth...

I pull a 3220 with a navigator and use a Reese dual cam. I travel with the fresh water tank full to add tongue weight. I use 800lb bars and it pulls like a dream.

I have a 3220 35' long i tow with a 2003 5.4 f150 king panch crew cab
I have wdh chain style and 2 friction sway controls 1each side i tow ok execpt for heavy winds i slow down alot i do not want to find the limit lol

I have a 2013 ram 1500 and you might want to check ur payload capacity on the door jam. I would bet the tongue weight of that trailer puts you over...I wouldn't tow that trailer with my truck but ymmv

I tow with a Ram 2500HD and it pulls real nice. Install took less then an hour. I had the dealer install it for free when We picked up Our 2014 passport 2910.
Its worth the money when You are towing a $20000 + camper. IMO

I pull the 2920bh with my 08 ram 1500. I would not pull anything longer myself with short wheel base truck. Personally if I was you, I would upgrade to an equal-i-zer wdh or better. I used to pull a 29' with that wdh you lisdted, and any wind it would still sway. I had two friction sway bars I would crank way down. You will for sure be over your payload on a 1/2ton. I have enough power, but I wouldn't want to pull mine in any big hills. Does fine in Midwest. Next truck will have a Cummings under the hood!

To continue on with subject last year we pulled a 3220bh with a 03 f150 crew can 5.4 auto it pulled it ok we took it easy. i would not pull to florida from new york. We pulled it home from ohio but would not do it again i recently upgrade to an 1995 f250 ext cab 4x4 with a 7.3 powerstroke it has 139k on the clock so hoping it will be better well i know it will be.
If u can find a 3/4ton as your tow rig i would

I appreciate everyone concerns on pulling this camper. To let everyone know we took delivery of it this past Saturday. The camper pulled great and handle well on the 3 hour drive home in windy conditions. Thanks to those who recommend me a WD hitch. That work great. We will get a 3/4 ton diesel sometime in the future but right now my truck do.

I traded in a 2010 f350 6.4 diesel for the Ram. best move I have made in a long time. diesels are not a god send for most. one has to tow alot and I mean alot to make it worth the hassle. I had My f350 for almost two years and I dont miss it one bit.

Congrats on the new rig!
Hopefully the WD hitch is enough for you. We get a lot of wind here, and upgrading to a $3K Propride hitch is our best option (short of downsizing).
BTW, the Passports are so light you may flirt with the payload limit, but their figures seem bang-on, so they are feasible.
