Looking for a replacement to our OME mattress
We have a 27-foot 2011 Sprinter with a short queen mattress. The mattress has built-in springs so it's like a combo. I'm sure many people have the same set-up. We have plywood under the mattress. It's really not that uncomfortable but I think we can do better. I would like to get a replacement but have looked at various options at places like camping world and haven't been impressed. Specifically, are people happy with just a mattress without the springs set on plywood? Thanks for any ideas or suggestions. BTW I did do a search and didn't get that much useful info.

If you do a forum search on the topic you will find lots of good advice and solutions to the substandard mattresses Keystone provides. I put a 3" memory foam queen topper over my mattress (trimmed 4" off end to fit). I find this combination acceptable.

ras100,
There's not a lot to chose from in "ready-made" RV short/queen's, and most likely you'll have to order one.
If I'm not mistaken they now offer the Sleep Number mattress in an RV queen.
Some members have mentioned having a mattress special-made if/when they have a mattress factory in their area.
Others have purchased the "bed-in-a-box" (thick, memory foam-type) & cut it to fit, if needed.
There are sites, like the following, that you can use to compare what's available.

Hope this helps,

When we bought our 08 Outback last year, the first thing we did was by a new mattress.Went to Sams and bought regular queen size Serta.A real PITA to get in,but it sure does sleep nice. The old mattress you could roll up and carry out with ease.New one just barely fit through the door and up on the bed.No springs just the mattress on the board.Just enough room to slide by the end to get to both sides. The extra inches is well worth the money.

We put a full size queen in our camper. Easy to do if you have the room. Went to slumberland and looked at the scratch and dent sale. Got a top brand pillow top for under $200. Sits right on top of the plywood and is very comfy.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. We are deciding if we want 8" or 10" and if we want to have the mattress shipped to one of our camping stops or wait until we get home. We're heading for Mustang Island in Texas tomorrow and have been suffering the horrible weather in New Orleans and Houston over the past week. Appreciate all your help.

ras100,
Some additional food for thought: Do you have over-head cabinets at the head of the bed? If so, be sure you have enough headroom/clearance
if considering a 10" thick mattress. Your forehead will thank you.

We bought a 3 inch gel foam topper from Costco for our 2 year old mattress and it seems to be doing the job.

This is exactly what we did, and couldn't be happier.
