Friday. 2 dead

My parents were at their cottage in lupton/rose city area when it went through. Thankfully for them Gaylord is quite a bit further away, but if it came through their area, that cottage would not have stood a chance.

Very sad for all involved.

He did post Friday night at about 10pm, I believe? (If I can read correctly, anyways. That particular skill of mine has been in question this weekend). I saw on our local news about the tornado and came on here to check if John had posted anything. The post was about Northern Tool, so figured he and family were ok.

Yes, I believe John is OK. He had to leave for family business and it was after the tornado IIRC.

I PM’d him the night of the tornado and he reported they were safe and sound with no damages at home. From what he said they had been in the area where the tornado hit but headed home not long before impact and saw the dark skies in the rearview mirror. I was happy to hear he and his family were safe.

Hey guys, Thanks for the concern and wishes. DW and I are OK. I had some medical tests scheduled for 1PM Friday, got that done, we went to lunch in town, then filled up with gas for a trip to North Carolina early Saturday morning. As we were leaving the gas station at the I-75/M-32 interchange, traffic was terrible. We finally got onto the road and headed east. As we were leaving town, DW commented that the skies were black behind us. We had severe thunderstorms forecast for 3PM, so I just shook it off as those rolling through. When we got home (about 20 miles) we had a couple of raindrops and some gusting breezes, but no high winds. DW's sister called and asked if we were OK, she's in Pontiac, and that's who told us about the tornado.

It took the roof off Hobby Lobby and 3 stores in that area, broke most of the windows in Culver's, took out a small strip mall across the highway, upturned all or most of the trailers at Northern RV and upturned several 18 wheelers at a diesel truck repair center, jumped the interstate and hit a couple blocks of houses east of I-75. The hospital was on diversion for 3 days and on generator power for that time. They are back to normal operations, power is still out as of this morning about 7AM.

We're not in the area right now, but things are OK at home, no damage and no losses. I wish I could say that for everyone in town, but last count I heard was 2 lives lost and 44 serious injuries. One mobile home park behind Hobby Lobby is pretty much completely destroyed.

Well, enough morbid tales for now. Again, thanks for the wishes and the concerns for our safety.

John
