To slide out or not slide out.

Long before we bought our TT I was surfing web sites like this.
It looked to me like the number 1 problem with a TT was the slide out.

We or mostly I, because I am in charge of all maint, made the mandate: No slide outs.

As the years go on I think I made a smart decision.
There are times when the extra room would be nice but then I sit back and enjoy an adult beverage.

My first fiver didn’t have a slide, and the last 3 have. I wouldn’t have a trailer without them. Very few issues for me.

My first RV, a 2020 Cougar TT had two slides. One in the living area and the king bed slide in the bedroom. The more time I spent in it the more the living area seemed get smaller.

That is the reason I bought my current 5er ten months later with apposing slides in the living area. Plus, I love how much better a 5er tows.

Had RVs without slides; they were fine for me when I took them to work out of, hunt or etc. When DW and the kids went it was "very unhappy times". Bought a trailer with slides and it was sheer "wonderful" for us all. I wouldn't have another one without them; can't imagine trying to stay within an 8' tunnel again.

Sorry, slideouts are worth the extra maintenance! We went from a 5er 28’ no slides to a 5er 32’ two slide and double the space!

Your truck may break down also, then what? The awning may quit, NO awnings either? There's a million items that "could", definitely will, need maintenance on a rv.
Had 3 rvs in the last 20+ years, ALL had 3 slides & never an issue with any of them. AND would never buy a rv without slides.

Your reasoning as such is followed by "no air or power windows or seats in the car." "Oh, no air in the RV." Where does it stop? You're still camping in the 70's.
By the way, better not have a black tank in the RV because there are A LOT more tank problems than slide problems. After all, no one has ever gotten a scrub brush stuck in the slide!

I've heard tents are real low maintenance. No slides, no a/c, no pesky battery, no fridge or water heater, no pumps, jacks, electronics, just zippers! No thanks, I too have not had a failure but maintenance? Some spray lube doesn't put me off.

Tents? TENTS? ?
How 'bout Army surplus folding cots and a mosquito "bar"?
But I can attest to that WWII era cotton on the cot failing in the middle of the night.
My Dad could squeeze a penny.
