Rusting pipes

Is it normal and ok that our propane pipes and drain hangers have rust on them after just 1+ year? 2020 Montana High Country 294.

It’s just standard “ black pipe” plumbing pipe ..it’s gonna get a surface rust on it..it would take quite a long time to rust through.,you could hit it with sandpaper and paint it with black exterior paint. Just don’t use a wire brush or anything on the threads..you may dislodge any pipe dope or thread tape if they used it

Leave it alone. I’ve seen black pipe with a thick “crust” of rust on trailers over 20 yrs old, and no leaks.

Black iron pipe will rust. If you clean the rust off of black iron pipe, it will rust again. Clean it again and it will "beat you to a pulp" proving to you that it can rust faster than you can clean it off....

From a "corrosion control perspective" a light coat of surface rust will prevent "excessive rust damage from occurring". If it bothers you, buy a can of "FLUID FILM" and spray the pipe, wipe off any places where it's dripping, the next day with an old rag. Wear OLD clothing and eye safety glasses to spray the pipe. You WILL wear more than the pipe when you're finished....

You can buy it at Lowe's (in the automotive section), at AutoZone or on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Fluid-Film-AS...1FSYYB8O&psc=1

It's like interstate bridge supports.....a coating of rust prevents corrosion, or something like that.
Hit it with what John recommended or the cheapest rust preventive paint from....all together now...WalMart.

Don't use fluid film for this. Hit it with Rustoleum Rust Reformer once and then again every time you see rust break through. After a few coats over a few weeks or months it should be sealed for good. Reserve the fluid film for stuff that is both rusting and very difficult to access or remove to access. I use both.

Don't listen to the people telling you it's OK to leave exposed rust alone. Seal it every time.
