What is the torque rating for The Hanger bolts for the Dexter 7000 pound axles

My axle got loose yesterday. Slipped on the leaf spring andcaused quite a bit of a problem but we figured it out. What's the torque rating I should torque those nuts down to. I plan on calling Dexter on Monday 7000lb axle on a raptor. Thanks

Not sure of the torque or what year model your rv is. Before just torqueing the bolts check the bushings, in 5-6k miles the plastic bushings were worn out & the bolt holes in the shackles were elongated. Replaced with the MorRyde heavy shackles & wet bolt kit that came with all new bronze bushings. The wet bolts were shoulder bolts so you couldn't over tighten them, they just bottomed out.

If your axle slipped, then the UBOLTS got loose not the shackle bolts.

Torque:
1/2” diameter bolts-45 to 70 ft/lbs
9/16” diameter bolts- 65 to 95 ft/lbs
5/8” diameter bolts- 100 to 120 ft/lbs

Thanks guys for replies. Chukster, I'm not sure on the size of my ubolts. The nuts are 3/4 inch is all I know. Given that, what size ubolt do you think I have? Thanks very much!

Probably 1/2” just use a tape and measure across the bolt (width).

U bolt torque is this for trailers:

1/2 inch Bolts: 45 ft/lbs - 70 ft/lbs
9/16 inch Bolts: 65 ft/lbs - 95 ft/lbs

The original bolts on ours were a bit better then finger tight. When I replaced the springs, I went to 9/16" U-bolts from the original 1/2" and quickly found that 95 lb ft would bend the spring plate. I enlarged the bolt holes and reused the original Dexter plates which are at least one sheet metal grade thicker. I now use 75 lb ft.torque which is more then the original max 1/2" torque figure

I also am using a hardened washer between the nut and spring plate to prevent galling. A spring shop should have them but I found some ARP brand for a reasonable price (ARPs are usually a few bucks each)

Quick update; I called Dexter. They said 1/2 inch hanger bolts should be 90 to 95. I just tightened to 90. Fingers crossed we get home from Destin next weekend with no problems!

I wouldn’t think so. I have worked on some that were finger tight.
