Interesting towing today in wind

It was a bit windy on the ride home today. Trailer was blowing around a bit. First time in 3 years I felt a lot of movement in the trailer, since I got the 350. One gust moved the trailer but luckily did not lose control, did end up halfway in another lane. Stayed in the first lane for the most part so I only had to deal with cars on one side. Felt bad for one guys towing a TT with a minivan, I could see his white knuckles as I passed him. Made it home safe and all is good.

Glad you made it home safe and sound.

In '09 I was headed west on I-80 in Wyoming. It was so windy my DRW F350 was in one lane and the 36' fiver was halfway in the next. OTR trucks were using both full lanes, did this for about 5 hours.

Central Illinois was bad Friday and Monday. Made me comment both days to me wife that a F350 would pull alot nice in the wind than the current F150. Being we only have a Passport 23rb I really do know how guys with larger trailers do it with half ton trucks.

I was blown over about 30 miles West of Laramie in '02 while driving a
radioactive (extream low level), load to the Lab at Idaho Falls. I was later
asked why I hadn't diverted to US 30W at Laramie and avoided the worst
of it. Told that manager that if I were familiar with that area I would have
and would the next time I drove that way. Paid off when I first came to N.M. in '12.

A good friend lives in Wyoming and says the saying is: if the wind quit everyone would fall over

We were Eastbound on I-10 coming out of LA yesterday and did not even know the wind was blowing until we stopped in a rest area. Must have been 25-30 mph with higher gusts out of the SW. The 3500 with the Montana did not seem to feel it.

Around here I 84 from mp18 out of PDX to past Hood River MP 90 area is nearly always windy. Some days on/off thru MP215. Mostly head on or tail wind but go around a hill and you can get sideways winds. Glad the lanes are 12 feet wide. Most winters someone gets blow over or off the road. At times ODOT closes the interstate.

Cost me 35 g's the first time I towed our TT in the wind. Maiden voyage had a gust catch us and sent me over the centre line. No issues but convinced me I wasn't willing to take any chances. New truck on order the following day.

We have relatives who attempted to tow a 30' bumper tow TT behind a Yukon many years ago, in heavy wind, and got a pilot-induced oscillation going... They ended up with both the Yukon and trailer upside down in a ditch north of Phoenix. Luckily only a scratch on one of their hands.

Wind and trailers are not to be fooled with. Especially with short wheelbase TVs.

We where on I 10 2 days ago coming from Tombstone motorcycle rally . I was quit lucky till this dust devil come roaring across I 10. I though should I try to out run it or slow down in take it in the back side. I slowed down to like 35 and got hit broad side and sand blasted hard . I think its better to slow down then to our run it . Judgment call.
