Would you pick up new camper in snow?

We are scheduled to pick up our new Keystone Hideout 280LHS tomorrow in Iowa. We are about 3 hours away in central Illinois. There is snow on the ground and a bit more scheduled overnight and tomorrow. We have pulled campers for years; just not in snow or wintry weather.

Really want to get our camper home but conflicted. Looking for honest answers please. Thanks everyone.

If I had the choice, I would wait. Not only for safety but if I could avoid the road salt on the chassis I would. JM2¢, Hank

I would do it, as long as it's not a major storm going on, and they keep up with the roads. As soon as you get a day over freezing, get out the hose and rinse the salt off. I brought my 210LHS home on a solid sheet of ice, but it was only 30 minutes away, and about 2 weeks later we got a chance to rinse it off.

You have probably been anxiously waiting for this day to come so that you can go pick up your new RV and bring it "home". However, if it were me, I think I would sit tight and wait for a few days more or until the snow and road conditions improve. I am only guessing but once you have it home, it will probably just sit there while you wait for better camping weather so you can use it.

Patience and common sense -----wish I had both of those qualities.

Pick up camper in snow?

Thanks everyone for weighing in. We went ahead and postponed the pick up.

Not what I wanted to do but definitely the wise move to make. We don't have any trips scheduled; just wanted her home in our driveway!!!! Patience and common sense, sometimes being grown up is hard to do.

Appreciate your comments and thoughts.

I know we wouldn't. We would wait until the snow AND salt are off of the roads. You don't need all of the road debris, possibly sand too, under your new travel trailer. And especially for that length of travel time.

Can you wait until April?

Congrats on the new camper though!

I wouldn't do it just for the reason of road salt alone. Of course if the rig was shipped from the factory to dealer in Salt, I guess it wouldn't matter. Road salt kills the metal, axles, Spring, brakes etc. They are not protected like cars.

As we bought ours in Nov 2013 not thinking we would have any salt or what not SURPRISE!!! Since we have been home I've be under the trailer with Salt Away and the good old hose. I made the mistake of undoing some of the bolts on the coroplast and found water and salt and dirt so now I am trying to spray the Coroplast off in hopes of getting it clean, mostly. I can only get from the back to the axles for now. Just ahead of that is the gas line. I saw several hullers pulling 5th wheels, trailers etc. and am wondering how the dealers ever get them clean. I bet they don't since probably a lot of people never look under one.

Sorry you had to postpone, I know the wait is a rough, but it sounds like the safest option. Congrats on your new trailer! Hope the weather cooperates so you can get it in the driveway soon!

medpbuch, Howdy;

Glad to see you decided to forgo the pick-up until later.
I hate driving in that soup... I know what my experience
and skills are it's the idiots out there that give me occasion
to pause. Thinkin' 80% of the drivers out there got their
licenses from a Cracker Jack Box or need to install a window
in their navel so they can see where they are going ...

I wouldn't come out of the house in the snow but I live in Florida so my opinion is worth nothing. LOL
