Chevy or GMC ?

I`ve been looking at Chevy and GMC trucks and I`m trying to figure out whats the difference between the two. Does anybody know? I`ve been looking at the Silverado 2500`s in both makes. They both look identical, the price range is about the same.

My father in-law worked at the truck Flint Michigan plant for 30 years. I asked him what the difference was between chevy and GMC trucks like the 2500. He said just the skin that everything else is the same: frame, motor, etc.

They are both the same (some option packages may vary)....... All depends on if you want a monogram up front or a bow-tie. GMC dealers in my area seem to be a little more truck oriented but I think both dealers can do warranty work on both. If that is what you want it would come down to price and proximity of dealership. My step father worked at a GMC/Chevy dealership years ago and they received a new truck from the factory with GMC name plates etc on one side of the truck and Chevrolet ones on the other.......... I do think the GMC appointments may be upgraded somewhat from the Chevy's.

Thanks for the responses. I was thinking there might not be a whole lotta difference between the two. I sort of favor the GMC, seems to have a better looking front end. Maybe it`s just the GMC nameplate stuck to the grill.

PT RVer,
Went through this decision making process for the last month, picked up the new GMC last Wednesday

The trucks are basically identical under the sheet metal and plastic. In my area it came down to comfort with and faith in the dealership. Pricing was close enough to make no real difference.

I`m try`in. I think my Tundra is not up to the job anymore of pulling my TT. I`m within my towing specs but after reading a lot of threads on maxing out your truck, I think it might be time to upgrade.

My last TV was a GMC & I loved it. My current TV is a Ram & I love it. I have also had Chevys & Fords & loved them. As someone stated, the only difference between Chevy & GMC is slight styling & offered packages.

I went looking for a diesel in Jan & looked at all 4. I considered everything but a Ford 6.0, and I have a friend who has 230K on one of those & has never had a problem. When looking used, find the features & price you want & go for it. Good luck.

No loyalty here. We have a Dodge, Chevy, Ford and a Toyota in the driveway.

They are essentially the same truck, but as with the "old" Ford/Mercury vehicles, the NADA and Edmond's suggested retail/trade in pricing on used vehicles can be significantly different. Although the original "sticker price" may be almost identical, the resale value of the GMC in some areas of the country will be significantly lower than the same Chevrolet truck equipped with the same options. However, in some markets, they are almost identical in trade in value.

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I favor the look of the GMC over the Chevy. I would like to stick with Toyota, but the payload kills that idea. I pretty much have the same payload now as in the newer models. It`s a shame they didn`t do anything to increase the load.

Not sure of the area, but most often I find the GMC slightly higher in resale value than a comparable Chevy.

But to answer the OP's question, drive train are identical, and the newer models have comperable trim packages to each other. Old Body Stlyle, I believe the GMC has a bit more fit and finish to it

Good luck with your search. My last Duramax I flew to IL to pick up and my current one I was lucky enough to find right here in MT!
