emergency exit window latch

Hello all. We just upgraded from our Passport Ultralite Grand Touring 2400BH to a Hideout 28BHS for a little more space inside. The front window in the bedroom I believe is an emergency exit window, however it came open while traveling on the previous owner so they siliconed it shut. It looks to be missing locking latch on inside. Is it possible to get parts to fix it so that it functions correctly?

There are a couple of different types, this is the most common:

Chuckster’s choice is the one we bought for the Raptor when it broke. Worked like the original.

ordered and received the replacement latch this weekend. Haven't had time to mess with replacing yet though. Replacement came with rivets, so guess I've got old rivets to drill out. Figured replacement would just have screws.

finally had time to get this replaced. Latch replacement was easy. The problem now is I had to cut the silicone around the window to get it opened from the outside to be able to work on it. The silicone and me cutting the silicone with razor blade damaged the rubber weatherstrip seal. Can I purchase a new seal for the window? If so, where can I find it to purchase?

You can get almost any part for a Keystone from Trekwood, which is Keystone's retail arm. The prices are nominal but the shipping is horrendous. You can often use their site to determine what the part you need is called and its model number, then purchase it someplace more local and reasonable.

It's true that you can get many parts for Keystone RV's from Trekwood.com. But, that company is NOT a part of the Keystone RV manufacturing company... In reality, Trekwood.com is the parts department website for Tiara RV Sales, a very large RV dealership in Elkhart, Indiana. They are located online here: https://www.tiararvsales.com/parts/

The parent company, Tiara is physically located at 3260 Cassopolis St (between Cracker Barrell and Elkhart Campground)...

From what I can remember of the way it started, back around 2010 or so, Keystone, like today, has a policy of not selling parts to retail customers, only through dealers, so a "Keystone owner" could not get parts online from any "reliable source' as most dealerships were not "online for parts"... Tiara started selling "Keystone parts" through their parts department on a small website called "TREKWOOD.COM"... That has since grown significantly and now is marketed as "the only place online where you can purchase replacement parts from top RV manufacturers"...

In reality, anything Trekwood has is typically available at any Keystone dealership parts department. The "issue" is that many dealerships just won't spend the time to order a small part for an owner, not because they can't get it, but rather because they don't make enough money from the sale to justify the time and effort to locate that small part.... But, Tiara RV has "figured out a way to keep a computer log of what's available, where it's located and how to "order and deliver it to the customer" to maximize their profits.... Part of that success is the "despiration of owners" who are tired of waiting for their dealer to call them back with a price, so they go to Trekwood.com, order that $3 part, pay Trekwood (Tiara) $4 for the part and then the "shipping and handling charges" of $15.... That's where Trekwood "makes up the difference"...

It's just a situation where Tiara "saw an opportunity and filled a need" that wasn't present with Keystone RV's because the factory will not sell parts at retail.....

On the other hand, many RV manufacturers do have an "in house parts availability"... Just not Keystone.....

Wish I would have seen this earlier. I had a spare latch I could have donated to you. Bought a spare for my old trailer since they seem to break often. I don't believe my new unit has this style any longer. Guess I'll keep it for long trips and run into anyone that needs one. Also keep a rivet gun in the trailer, just in case.

Yep, I've got rivet gun packed in my tool bag that stays in the truck for camping trips. I was tempted to get some small bolts and just bolt it in, but the entire latch assembly is pretty thin, flimsy aluminum. I doubt it would matter how it's fastened, so I riveted the new one on and then spent a good hour or so trying to remove silicone from all around the window seal and outer window frame.

Trekwood site has lots of parts, but hard to tell for sure what seal I need; the descriptions are very vague. I'm not even sure how the seal is installed.

Ok, here's what I'm working with. As you can see, all kinds of silicone slathered all over the frame and weather-stripping that I'm trying to peel off. What is the small hole in the lower part of the frame? Is that just a weep hole? I didn't notice that on our last camper that had the same style emergency exit window on it. Also, in 2nd picture the edge of weather strip seal is visible. Does anybody know what it is actually called? I didn't see anything on the websites posted that looked like that.

You sir, are going to need a new seal all around. Best bet would be remove the seal and find a stick on replacement. Most RV stores should have them in stock. If not, take some measurements and get them online. Unfortunately there is no saving that...

Oh for sure it's trash. I've been trying to figure out what the seal is actually called to select correct one. Haven't had luck, so I'm taking picture and going to the local rv dealer parts dept to see what they have. It looks like there is a lip around the inner perimeter of the window frame that the seal just sticks too. I'm hoping once I find replacement, I'll pull the old seal off and will then be able to clean the rest of the silicone off better.

There is always Amazon. Just check the dimensions and style... Look at reviews and clean up the area it sticks on REALLY good with adhesive remover and isopropyl alcohol. Careful not to rub the finish off with the adhesive remover. A heat gun and plastic razor blades may be better, but always clean it with alcohol before sticking it on...

This APPEARS to be close, but would need measurements.
