Trailer theft

Over the years we've had a few items stolen from our campsite, some that we even had stowed right up next to the trailer as we turned in for the night. But we've never run into/across anyone who has had their whole rig stolen.

My BIL sent us this link to YouTube that demonstrates locks/couplers and how easy it would be for someone to take a rig.

And then he said that after further investigation, he is going to get this device for his trailer:

I'm wondering if anyone out there uses a gizmo like this?

Insurance. I have insurance to cover theft of the whole trailer. I rarely lock the trailer itself. Anything I want to keep stays with me. I'm more worried about my tailgater satellite dish being stolen ;-)

Happy camping.

We feel pretty safe as to where we keep our TT stored. however, we decided to be a bit on the cautious side and bought this.

I searched a bit and saw it for as much as $70. One place had it for about $23 but wanted $35 for shipping. amazon's total was about $28.

We got one of those ^ (similar) but it sure is wobbly. Seems like it would be easy to pry or sissy bar it off.

Still laughing over that demonstration as for some reason he didn't seem as committed to getting the vault lock off.
I use the same lock as 440 justin and according to the video it took one second to get off. I don't think so (guessing altered a bit) but besides that if I am willing to make noise I can gain access to most peoples homes in about 5 seconds. If I wanted to do it quietly then about 30 seconds (unalarmed of course).
The point being I take reasonable security cautions and insure our belongings then go about living my life.
Simple locks on our batteries and LP tanks now as well since their theft. On that note thieves came back to the storage we use and more stuff taken. Our locks seemed to do the trick this time around. Not so for the unlocked trailers. Sad...

Neighbor had his truck and trailer stolen from in front of his house. It was recovered, but with damage to both. He had it parked in front of his house for 2 days before it was stolen, and in that short time, Google came by and did their street view thing. So anytime I look at my house on street view, I see his unit hooked up about a day before it was stolen.

Unfortunately, if a thief wants something bad enough he'll figure out a way to take it. We just do the best we can and hope for the best.

When I have the camper home from storage I find this method will slow down any one who wants to take my camper.

OK so I do this so I can get level in my driveway without the front 4 feet in the air.

I worked auto theft full time for about 6 years, The area had around 12-15000 stolen vehicles per year. The unit of 9 guys recovered 5030 stolen vehicles during that time. I got lists of stolen rvs, construction vehicles, off road vehicles, etc nationally.. We had monthly meetings with Insurence Co.s Locally and nationwide the motohome is the most popular, Stolen travel trailers where few. Not saying it will not happen but, just think what we need to do to move/pull a modern travel trailer or 5th wheel. They get broken into alot, stolen not so much. In PDX we never had one(TT) stolen and only 1 5th wheel while I worked auto theft. I don't worry about the TT, my boat and pickups are compeletly different.
