converter fan

1 have a 2008 springdale and the converter fan sounds like it is about to die. It varies in speed , almost stopping , and then speeds up to full capacity. As we are new to trailer ownership, should i attempt to remove the cover and clean or replace , what i assume is the cooling fan, or have it serviced or is this sound normal ? Suggestions ?

Try to turn on all 12 volt lights, the fan should run pretty much full speed continuely, then turn about half off, should slow down, then turn all off, should quit or go very slow, depending on the temp around the converter. The fan has circuit has a rheostat to speed and slow the motor to keep the transformer cooled down to an certain temp..............Ron

Fan changing speed is normal. Now if it gets really noisy or doesn't run, that when you can have problems.

thanks to both for the replies. I was just concerned that the fan was sticking and if it seized would cause a fire. glad to know its normal. Will try turning on the lights and confirm but that makes sense . Great to be on this site now. Help is just a click away .... Taz

The fan should run at a constant speed for a given load. If you load up the converter and the fan speed changes erratically, then you have a bad fan.
