Generator using Propane?

Have a dual fuel Champion. If memory serves it claim 3800 running watts on gas and 3420 on propane. They talk about some number of hours of run time (gas) at 50 percent power. Based on experience if I have the thing running and powering, run time on a tank of gas is perhaps 4-6 hours estimated.

I got curious about propane; what propane consumption could I expect for a similar 4-6 hour run time? I am sure this is an imprecise estimate but wondering a a big tank of propane stashed would be easier than stashing gasoline. I generally have 10-15 gallons of gas on hand. Anyone a propane user?

We have a transfer switch in the house and can run 5000 btu window A/C, TVs, kitchen appliances less microwave and stove and computers, lights, etc running our generator. Of course, 1/2 the house isn't powered and there is no power to the well or heater/house A/C.

Btu oF propane = 84,300/Gal
Btu of Reg Gasoline = 114,100/Gal

Years ago I converted several F-250,s with 460cu.in. to propane. It worked out well for me. I had to factor in the increased consumption to level the true costs.

From an engineers prospective, when you are purchasing or storing fuel you need to look at Btu's.

Since you are using this fuel to electrify your house it should come without "Road Tax" unlike gasoline at the pump.
