Costco has the aipower inverter 2300 generator for only $399

https://www.costco.com/a-ipower-powe...100653776.html

I can confirm this is a great generator and can parallel 2 together or use it with one of their other suitcase generators like the sc2000i. Really quiet. Love mine !

$399 for a Yamaha engine how can you go wrong and extra warranty if you use your Costco visa.

Year ago or so. I phoned the PDX Yamaha service center and gave them the model of the costco Yamaha and they did not have any information if it could or would work with a sc2000i Yamaha genny. I emailed Yamaha and never got any response. Some where during my web search it made me believe the engine is Yamaha all other stuff is someone's else stuff on it.
I gave up trying to get the real answer and decided not to buy 1 and hook it up and loose the 1,000 dollar genny if they would harm each other.
I might buy 2 costco ones and sell the used Yamaha.

I can't speak to this item but I know some large retailers will have a deal with a manufacturer where they get proprietary model numbers. WalMart has been doing this for decades. If a retailer "guarantees" the lowest price then they will have the "only price". WalMart did that with televisions and computers for years.

Just to confirm when I said pair it to a sc2000i I am referring to the aipower sc2000i. The aipower people told me all their generators can parallel together. I wouldn’t risk the Yamaha either.

I will be at Costco Nampa ID today and look again. The price of 2 for less than the cost of 1 Yamaha at a dealer is hard to pass up. Just for an example: If these at costco are any problem. I have dealt with returns at costco and there are great. I even had a freeze crack on a water pressure motor the 1st winter I owned it and they took it back without a problem. I figured to send it back for repair.

Indeed- I can tell you i also have the A-ipower 1600/2000 yamaha on top of this one in my atv trailer and its smooth, quiet, and great. Costco reviews validate all this, the only complaints are from people who say it wont run their ac by itself, because they dont know any better

They were out over here also. Went to online sales and it showed limited stock sale ended on the 11th. I did not attempt to order them. At the store they had another brand for 450 as I recall. I am holding off buying any of them for awhile. Might just get another matching Yamaha to my 2000.

Because it says Yamaha at Costco does not mean Yamaha built it. Years back Costco was selling Snap On plug in LED shop lights and cord caddy extensions. I was good friends with my Snap On dealer and he said they were not made by or endorsed by Snap On but they allowed the people to put their name on it to sell. He did not know why and they would not hold the Snap On warranty and the dealers did not have to accept them for warranty work.

Sounds to me like your friend was either misinformed or feeding you a line. I have a hard time believing that Costco would sell a "knock off" or that Snap On would allow it without a legal challenge. If it were some online entity it might be a little more believable. This sounds like urban legend to me. JMHO

Briggs and Stratton is probably the largest supplier of small engines for the US market. They build "state of the art fuel injected engines with pressurized, filtered lubrication systems and they build "rock age, oil slinger engines with a rudimentary carburetor.

One will last "indefinitely" and one will "make it through a couple of years of average service". One is found on $2500 lawn tractors and one is found on $600 lawn tractors. Both have a B&S sticker on the engine cowl.

It's the same with Honda engines and with Yamaha engines, just like it is with almost any other "name brand knockoff".

China has, in the past 5-10 years, produced "reverse engineered Honda engines" for nearly every market, some of which are junk and some of which are actually "great copies of the original" and parallel them for quality/service.

The "key" (at least to me) is trying to determine if the "Yamaha engine in a COSTCO generator" is one of the "high quality Yamaha engines with state of the art technology" or if it's an "old version Yamaha" that doesn't have the same quality/service expectation as the "Yamaha engines that are in Yamaha generators"....

I've got a Billy Goat walk behind brush cutter with a 13HP Honda engine. It's over 20 years old and still runs just like it did when I bought it in 1996 or 97. They still sell that model with the same engine for around $3500. They have the same "size brush cutter" for $1199 with a 9HP B&S engine. So, just having "the name on the outside" IMHO, doesn't mean as much as it used to mean.....

I'm not suggesting that a COSTCO product with a Yamaha branded engine is not a Yamaha engine... I'm suggesting that a COSTCO product with a Yamaha "brand" engine may not provide the "identical quality/service capability" as a Yamaha engine in a Yamaha generator produced under the Yamaha brand. When you consider "the rest of the generator" from the electronics to the generator/alternator head, there's much more that can "go wrong" even with a name brand engine powering the inferior to OEM parts.

My follow up. If they were in stock last week, I likely would have bought 2 and reported on their use.
I found a matching yamaha EF200isv2 at National Supply for less price then I paid in 2013. Free 2 day air shipped, it was 849.
My 1st 2000 is not called a v2 but they hook up together. I ran the new 1 for an hour with a light load and than hooked it up with the old unit and plugged them into the rv.
Together they ran the microwave and heater. Outside temps at 35f the A/c compressor would not come on. They did run the A/C fan and microwave at the same time.
I cannot say what parts are the same between the costco yamaha and the real yamaha. On youtube reviews it was believed the engines are the same, the control board/electronics are different. On the controls the only item I see different is my Yamahas have a fuel petcock, Costco does not on the control panel. The Yamaha has a 3 year warrenty, unknown about the Costco. I also wondered about the noise increase of 2 running vs 1. I do not hear a increased level. Youtubers said when running 2 together will make a 25% louder than just 1.
