How far do you want to go, and what do you like to do outdoors?

One of our "hidden gem" campgrounds is H. Cooper Black in Cheraw, SC, about two hours from you. We discovered it totally by accident when our planned CG turned out to be full. We call it Dog Disneyland. We happen to breed retrievers (and had two with us), and the CG is designed for retriever trials. Ponds, marshes, meadows, trails, even horse pens (good smells!) Hiking, fishing, horse trails. Unless an event is happening, you may very well be the only one there. Shady and relaxing. Full utilities. Our dogs begged us to stay longer.

Camping at the Nc fair grounds that’s about an hr from Winston Salem. There are closer campgrounds but I don’t know much about them. Google Nc fair grounds and you will find all the info about the campground.

Some others in the area are not so easy to get to and have low hanging trees. So be careful and before booking check about that.
