I don't see where anyone mentioned Canmore, Canada. We've stayed there twice and found it a good base camp for day trips into Banff, Kootenay and Yoho Parks. There is a nice RV Park just outside Canmore.
I'd suggest moving base camp and taking the trailer up to Jasper to see Mt Robson and Jasper Parks if you're interested in that area. Waterton is south of Canmore as you travel south out of Canada back to the US and combines with Glacier NP.
We used the border crossing on hwy 17 both ways and had no problems or traffic.

I'll second what Canonman is saying. Pick a place to set up your base camp, Canmore is a good choice. From there you can make day trips to various locations, leaving the RV at the base camp.

The drive between the towns of Banff & Jasper, on the Icefields Parkway, is one of the most scenic drives anywhere in the world. Highly recommended, and it's much better when you aren't pulling a trailer.

I agree that Hwy 93 ( Ice Fields Parkway) between Lake Louise and Jasper is a beautiful drive with lots of glaciers to view along the way. When traveling to Jasper have a full tank of gas when leaving Banff/ Lake Louise as there few fueling options between Lake Louise and Jasper. Also, there is no propane available in Banff, but it is availble in Canmore and Lake Louise.

Thanks for all of the input. We usually try to find a base from which we can day trip. Especially around the national parks. This week is when I finally will have time for a search of a place or places to stay in the area of Banff(ish). I started looking around Canmore but got sidetracked. Lake Louise looks tourist rich, maybe a few too many for me to visit/stay there. I did see a National park that looked good.

Canonman: Great photos! You take them? Where was the Canoe shot taken?

I did. That's so I can remember where we went
Canoe photo was taken at Moraine Lake, near Lake Louise
