Remounting large windows

I've posted that I have a problem with the seal of the two large windows in my "large slide". Although they are day one problems I discovered it in April and have fixed them temporarily. I plan on waiting for 2 days in a row of good weather and removing the windows and remounting with new dicor gasket kits.


For those that have done this, any tips/tricks/gotchas that I should be aware of. I know this is a two person job and my trusty helper (wife) will be there. For instance should I just remove the entire window or take the glass out and deal with the frame, etc

Remove the valence and blinds. Then start removing the screws in the “cinch ring”. Once the screws are out, make note of where the seam is, and set it aside.

Using plastic tools, remove the window after carefully scoring the sealant with a sharp razor knife.

Once the window is out, clean the trailer opening and remove all sealant and gasket. We use foam King for the new seal and make sure the ends are on the bottom of the window. Then put it back in the opening and install 4 screws, one one each in the center of each edge of the frame. Then just work your way around to fully seat the window. Then use a good RV rated sealant like proSeal on the top edge and around the top radius.

We use GE advanced silicone where I work.

Ah, "frost king" I was looking for "foam king" makes sense now.

Thought I would post a followup on this here and in the original post on what problems that I discovered. Will post the pictures when I find them, I must have taken them with the buddy that helped. Although I know this was a 'day one problem' it wasn't discovered until 18 months after ownership. It answered a few questions on why the "mice deterrent pack" in one part of the room was water stained. But until we were sitting at the window in torrential rain you would never know there was a leak. Anyways fix it and move on without arguing over warranty. The one thing I probably will do in the future is place strip of TP along certain walls when the trailer is in storage (outside) to 'detect water leaks sooner'.





First I bought/used the "Dicor Seal-tite window seal kit" and then followed Chuckster's direction. This is what I found:


From the inside/outside, you would think these windows were perfect and sealed.



1. The foam seal gasket was stretched around the top corner on both window to the point that the seal did not make contact between the window frame and the side of the trailer.


2. The window opening was cut too large resulting in the top seal being compromised. There was at least an extra 1/4-1/2 extra around the and in places where the hole is "irregular" maybe more. I don't not believe the videos of Keystone using NC machines to make this slide out wall! Anyways when placing the window in I had to use spacers (made from 2-3 pieces of paint stirrer sticks) on the bottom of the window opening to 'center the window' in the hole.


3. Where the current seal mechanism does not use any sealant other than the foam gasket, the new kit does and I used it on the top, around the top radius as recommended as well as both sides.



4. When the windows were removed I did observe water staining where the gasket was compromised and the 'front side' of the window I take it most times in storage the hitch end was low. Anyways although the Styrofoam core was stained it didn't seem damaged at all. There is one part of the luan and "wallpaper" under the dinette bench that I will work on to make perfect but it is cosmetic.
