ok, just finishing up a trip to florida and have a thought. just too windy to use the awning and cannot attach anything to the awning as you need to retract it at a moments notice when the wind kicks up. but the sun is brutal and limits you desire to go outside. came up with the idea to get a porous sunscreen, attched to the camper below the awning so that it can be stretched out almost like a lean to - either staked directly to the ground or with short stakes. hopefully less impacted but the wind or atleast not having any arms that might bend of break. has anyone ever attempted such an idea - would appreciate thought. 2015 keystone passport 23rb

Sorry, but we this ‘original’ idea of yours was stolen years ago. Most awnings already have the means by which these screens are attached. All the larger rv suppliers offer them in varying lengths. They are very common.
You will probably have to extend the awning about 3 feet to clear the entry door and then just leave it except in high winds.

If it's attached directly to the wall above the door and not attached to the awning, you won't be able to open the door. The top has to clear the swing of the door. Even if an awning is tipped down on both ends, often there is not clearance at the top of the door to swing it open all the way.

duh, of course! have seen the shades attached to the awning but did not like them as it 'seemed to require' the awning fully extended - which is a major problem in windy areas. but duh all one needs to do is extend the awning a few inched to get past door then use the sun screen. much thanks

How are you attaching the sun screen to the camper? If attaching to the awning, it will need to be attached to the roller of the awning. The slot for installing the shade is on the roller, which is rolled up inside the awning canvas.

How will you clip something onto the awning after you extend it a couple feet so the door will open without interference at the top?

If you plan on it rolling up into the awning also, then when you open the awning a couple feet it will hang down a couple feet too. Will you then anchor it down with an awning anchoring kit or ropes? If so, you are kind of defeating everything, because with a high wind, even if an awning is opened only a couple feet, it's still at risk of ripping and getting torn up.

We travel a lot and we find every campsite is different. Sometimes we are in sun and sometimes under wonderful shaded trees. We are prepared for both. As a solution to the sun shining UNDER the awning with it is in those very annoying positions, this was our solution years and years and years ago. Simply move them around and stay in the shade. Of course, when the wind blows hard, the canvas come off. We've seen too many of them flip over in high winds and get destroyed. So the cover is always off when we are gone or come in at night. The frame by itself has never moved in wind.
