Question Slideout Not Working

Hi, I have a 2007 Zepplin Z241 with a slideout.

Stopped working the last trip. I have replaced the switch, started the electric Accuslide motor with a separate battery, checked all of the fuses, made sure the battery was fully charged, with no luck.

I am thinking "wiring" problem at this point. Keystone does not have any wiring diagrrams for their trailers so I am not sure where to start.

The switch has four leads into it. I notice that many have 5 or 6 leads.

Any suggestions as I begin following wires throughout the trailer?

Thanks, Michael from California

need a little more input. you said you put a seperate battery to the motor did it run? do you have a volt meter? set it to dc voltage. put the meter on the motor have someone push the switch both ways. your meter should read +12volts in one direction and -12volts the other direction. if you get that reading the motor is done. if you do not get that reading then you need to go to the switch and see if you get power there. and are there 4 leads or 6? let us know and we can go father.

Thanks for the tips

The motor was working when I attached another battery directly to it.

There are four leads on the switch and I have replaced it and it not not solve the problem. I was able to identify the leads from a picture I saw from a similar switch in sales ad.

Seems we are not getting power to the switch. I have checked all of the fuses in the fuse box with the inverter. There are two 30 amp fuses in that box that were not identified, however all of the fuses appear to be working. Keystone video on electrical says all the fuses for their slide out motors are in the inverter box. Keystone does not have wiring diagram (which I think is really lame....how difficult would that info be to keep in a file for each model, and year).

Everything else in the trailer is working properly.

Again thanks for the assistance.

Maybe you could run a jumper from the fuse to the switch and see if it works. If it does you have an open in the line or a loose connection on it. My 2cents

hi Thanks for the better info. when you look at the fuses look close at them sometimes it is hard to tell the fuse popped. and try that jumper wire trick. It is sad about the wireing diagrams but as i have found out over time. the a/c unit and the thermostat are connected by a harness that connects the two but they have different color wires. so a pad and paper and a continuity tester or an ohm meter it what you will need. good luck. keeps us posted.

I think I found the circuit breaker

Wow, even though the Keystone Video on electrical system said the fuses were with teh converter/inverter, I found a circuit breaker that was "tripped" located up by the battery. Did not have a chance to change it out today however tomorrow I will do that and see if that solved the problem.

At least I know more that I did.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Problem Solved, mostly!

Well I did find two circuit breakers up by the battery and when I replaced the one that did go to the slide out, it worked!!!!;

however the other one going to the entire trailer was ruined (fell apart really from rust).

So I needed to replace the other one, however as it was a pile of rust I don't have an idea the size to use. I tried a 20 amp and that did not work, so I put in a 30 amp and....

all is good, both the slide out and the entire trailer are now working.

Last question, trust me....is the 30 amp I installed large enough for the circuit breaker going from the battery to the converter?

Again thanks for all the help, I have learned a lot (mostly the "hard" way), but now I am more knowledgeable of my trailer's entire 12 volt system.

If your TT has been pre-wired for 30A service, then this 30A breaker should be sufficient. The wiring diagram for my Lippert slide-out has a 30A auto reset breaker in its circuit. I would think that your '07 Zep would also have the same 30A breaker.

As far as that circuit breaker goes, you will want to try and identify the wire size that is terminated on it. It should be on the wire itself. Each wire size has a different amp rating. For example, 12AWG size wire is rated for 20amps. The lower the AWG number, the higher the amp rating and the bigger the wire size is. 14AWG is rated for 15amp, 10AWG is 30amp. If you have too many amps running through your wire they will at a minimum get hot and possibly melt the coating and possibly start a fire. You DO NOT want to oversize that breaker/fuse.
