Replace door grab bar

We are looking at a new trailer with 2 doors. Of course one has the folding grab bar and the other the inexpensive fixed/short handle.

Since we will probably use this 2nd door during travel and I want to make it more accessible for shorter people I want to replace the "handle" with a folding grab bar.

In my crude measuring on the lot, the differences between the top/bottom mount points would leave the bottom holes in the trailer. Someone has had to do this before...is there some trim piece that can be purchased to seal/trim out the old lower holes of the handle?

thanks

I have seen people just add the folding bar and leave the other. Less potential issues with water leaking.

On many (probably most) trailers, there is a "double aluminum 2x2 that forms the door framework. Typically, there is enough space on that door frame to screw a larger (taller) grab bar. Most people do leave the smaller one in place (rather than deal with the holes) and just mount the "swing away bar" above/below the existing grab bar.

If you do the same, be sure to position the new one "as close to the actual door frame as possible so you take advantage of as much of the aluminum understructure as possible.... Don't "center it an inch away from the door"... If you do, you'll likely "miss all the mounting potential that's under the trailer skin.

I installed the Lend a Hand and left the original handle in place.
