Bathroom sink faucet filter clean

I unscrewed the female end of the faucet to clean the filter.

I can’t get part 4 snapped back into part 3. I took it apart as I could see debris between the parts. Is this important?

What’s the part called? Can I replace it or replace the entire end bit?

Thank!

I believe part 4 is a flow restrictor, it should just snap back in, but you can live with out it. Just keep in mind the flow rate will be higher.

Yes. Thank you. That’s what it’s called. We don’t want to increase the flow! I’ve been trying for 2 days to snap it back in and it just won’t go!

Is it replaceable? Or can I buy a plastic replacement? I guess I could buy a metal replacement and take the piece I need out.

If in a pinch leave it out and head to the home improvement store and get a new aerator. $5 maybe (memory). I usually keep 2-3 in the house and one in the RV "just because".

The entire assembly is called a "faucet aerator" and can be purchased at any hardware or big box store. Just take the old one with you so you can match the threads to buy the proper size and thread pattern.

IIRC it just lays on part #3, the the rubber gasket holds it place. Doesn't actually "snap" into place just sits flat in the recessed part of #3.

Thanks everyone. I ended up buying a replacement aerator at Home Depot and swapped out the insides. Thanks for the suggestion.
