Trim? Dome?

I'm looking to replace the interior visible frame of the skylight over my shower, because it's cracking pretty much everywhere there's a screwhole.

I can't figure out what the difference is between an "Inner Dome" and an "Inner Trim." The former has a really tiny photo, to boot.

I also don't know what "PAG" means, or whether I need it.

All I can find from the company is this…

Which interior trim you need will be based on what type upper dome is installed..

I don't know what "PAG" means either and couldn't find anything in a quick search. The "inner dome" you show looks like the one in my old Cougar. The one that says it has a "PAG" top looks crinkly or something. IMO I would go with the inner dome type.

OK, looks like I need to get up on the ladder, wash the skylight, and then see whether or not it looks nubbly, then buy the matching interior garnish.

I think I want to put some sort of a foam gasket on the rim of the new one, and also trim off the raised ceiling panel connectors so that they don't extend under the garnish edge. Otherwise, it's impossible to get a reasonable ceiling seal without cracking the plastic.

I'm also going to take the opportunity to put some shade film or cloth over the inner dome to cut down on all the heat coming in through the skylight. To me, I need the skylight for height, not light. If I need light, there's always the light switch and/or the exhaust hatch.

I've never had much luck putting film on a curved surface without having bubbles. We buy a mesh shade fabric (I believe I got it at an auto parts store) that you can conform to the inside of the dome. I placed it over the dome part of the insert you are removing. Didn't have to do much but cut it to fit. The mesh is fine and material is sort of clingy. Laid it out over the dome and screwed it back in. Figured I would have to go back and put some tape on the edges but haven't yet and it's made it thousands of miles.

Ouch. I just realized that my problem isn't perpendicular joint strips, it's one big joint strip that runs entirely down one edge of the garnish. Ah well, I think I will just rely on constructing some clever two-height gasketing with self-adhesive weatherstrip, rather than trying to Dremel the garnish.
