HW Tank Question

We have an Atwood Model GC6AA-10E Hot Water tank. The trailer is less than a year old. On electric it takes 5 hours or more to heat up. If we use propane we have hot water in less than an hour. Is this normal?
Thanks.

Pretty much. The electric element is like one you might stick in a coffee cup to heat a cup of water. Imagine how long it would take to get 10 gallons hot; it is there to augment the propane. In warmer weather we don't bother use the electric augmentation; just propane.

On electric it shouldn’t take 5 hours to heat 6 gallons. I’m thinking you may have a bad heating element. You can take it in for warranty or get a new element from a big box hardware store and change it. It’s cheap enough to change it to rule out a bad element.
