Rollovers are violent.. when someone hooks up a large trailer to a small vehicle they think “what’s the worse that could happen”....well ....it could be like this

Well, now he's got 'a story to tell!' And he'll be able to speak better when his pucker string has a little more slack.

How were they able to get as far as they did? Maybe the first time that rig got up over 50mph? Hopefully only material damage.

My jaw dropped. It looked like the trailer was level, there was no rear sag on the Wrangler, but I thought to myself, that guy is driving a little too aggressive. That, wham!
Wow!
You bet, the driver was one of those people who could never be told, "you don't have enough tow vehicle." and thought he knew better! Some people just can never be told anything.

Well I looked closely at the setup at the beginning of the video and I don't see a WDH. So to not squat, you reduce hitch weight putting the trailer in an unstable condition even if level. Two door Jeep, short wheel bases very bad for towing a TT!

Keeps and trailers
I had a 1973 Jeep CJ-5. It was made for rock crawling: 4:11 axles, 4 speed, granny, canvas top. It was redlined at 55mph. Moved from Summit County to Denver with a small u-haul behind said vehicle. white knuckled every inch of the trip. Every direction change was scary. Never again!

I am not an expert on Jeep trailer pulling but here is an article that says it can be done:
https://drivinvibin.com/2020/09/20/t...d-with-a-jeep/
The article did mention the Jeep's payload as being a factor and didn't mention WDH use or the such. I wonder what the root cause analysis of the Jeep/old camper roll over would be in the youtube video.

Hey George I noticed this at the bottom of the article you referenced..in the comments..maybe some of our towing experts can weigh in on the definition and application.

Doesn't look like the light on the trailer worked. But I guess that doesn't matter now.

One other thing people don’t consider is the age of the TV ...all of the important specified weights and capacities are based on when something was new... this jeep looks like a late 90s to early 2000 tj...I have a 97...they are notorious rust buckets,..I’m constantly repairing my frame with welded repair sections... the spring perches and rear frame sections with center skid plate all rot out unless the jeep spent its entire life in the desert...jeep did not provide any drain holes in the frame and they rust from inside out..it was a bad decision all around ..there are a whole lot of older Jeep’s that would never pass state inspection

I'm not "attacking physical attributes" with this comment, but it may have played some factor in what happened...
The only person shown in the video being extracted from the overturned vehicle is an extremely short person. That person "may" not have been able to drive the vehicle without some accommodations such as pedal blocks, steering wheel assistive devices, etc. It's difficult/impossible for a 4' tall person to reach the pedals in any vehicle while sitting in the OEM driver's seat.
So, along with the "barely minimal vehicle capacity" there may have been some "driver inability/impairment" as well.
That goes along with the "mantra" I keep preaching on this forum. Take an inexperienced driver, put them behind the wheel of a "barely adequate" or "inadequate" tow vehicle/trailer combination and you "double the risk".... First, they almost always lack any knowledge of "what's normal and what's not normal" so they sit in a "vehicle an experienced operator would bail out of" going down the road at highway speeds, believing it's OK, when in reality, they should NEVER have been in that situation.... Lack of experience in what it should "feel like when towing"... Partly because they have no experience in "what it feels like just before things start going wrong.... If they don't sense those "inputs" they don't know how to avoid them or stop the situation from getting worse....
In many of the accidents I've seen on YouTube and other internet videos, there's seldom any brake lights on the trailer as it "swerves all over the road"... That's typical for an inexperienced driver, but almost every experienced driver towing an RV, instinctively knows to tap the brake control lever to help bring a swaying trailer back to 'normal position" behind a tow vehicle.... That's just the way things are when you get an inexperienced driver in a bad situation with no "learned reactions" to fall back on.... Add not knowing "what's normal" to not knowing what to do in an emergency and you get much closer to disaster...
I find myself in the same situation when I switch from driving my truck to driving the Slingshot or DW's Edge. Knobs and switches aren't in the same position on all of them, so when the "SHTF" I've got to think about what to reach for... It's the same with someone towing an RV with little/no experience. They're already behind the curve with a improperly matched rig, put them in something that's less stable or that's prone to sway more often and you double or triple the chances of something going way too wrong.....
That's why I "harp on having enough vehicle with some reserve capacity" for EVERYONE towing an RV and it's even more critical to have "greater reserves" for someone who is just starting out and is on the "short end of the learning curve"... For them, it's much better to have greater tow vehicle capacity than most experienced people who tow an RV.
It's harder for anyone (regardless of experience level) to maintain control of a "unstable/barely stable/barely adequate situation"... It becomes even more difficult for someone who "doesn't know what to do, instinctively" in a situation gone bad....

There were no brake lights when the Jeep stopped at the first intersection.
Maybe no electrical connection at all?
Can't use a brake controler, if it existed if nothing is hooked up.

May not have had it.. if you look at the beginning of the video you can see he has a tow hitch in the front of the jeep...I guess it’s a toad for a motor home? He takes off so fast out of the gas station also...crazy

Almost hard to watch... I think that there were so many factors involved in this situation that it was doomed from the start... still knowing it would wreck didn't make it any easier to watch.. Glad nobody was killed...

You're so right !!!!! And, as an "excuse why weight police are so vocal"....
I'd find it much harder to sleep at night if some "noobie" posted about their 38' Cougar and their new F150 EcoBoost with the HD tow package and nobody said anything.... And, in a couple of months, we see that trailer/truck in one of these videos with a report about the DW and 2 little ones in the back seat that were killed or critically injured with little chance of a full recovery......

At the start of the video I believe the Jeep does have rear squat, certainly taking away any semblance of control at speed.

They are not meant for towing, and there hasn't been a decent jeep made since the CJ.
