Angry Slide will not open - just makes ratcheting/ clicking sound - help!

I have a 2011 Outback 295RE travel trailer with (I think) Lippert slides. For the 2nd time, we arrived at our camp site to discover the larger slide will not open. It just makes a ratcheting/ clicking sound like the gear teeth are slipping.

The first time it happened I took it in and they said it just needed aligned/adjusted, which they did. They said to be sure the trailer was level and stabilizers were down, both of which I always do. It worked Ok for about 3 or 4 trips, and now I'm sitting in the campground with same problem. It is a sure fire way to ruin a trip!

Does anyone have experience with problem and know what needs fixed?

Thanks in advance!

Andy

If you crawl under your trailer you'll find a "brass bell" on one of the two slide rams. Loosen the nut that secures the bell, unscrew it one turn (away from the trailer frame) tighten the nut to resecure the bell and try your slide. It should move out without ratcheting.

Post whether this works or not and we can go on to the next step if it doesn't, but I think you'll deploy the slide if you loosen the bell sufficiently.

That did the trick!

Thanks JRTJH, that did the trick. All you need is a 1-1/8" wrench and a pipe wrench. I had to adjust it several times, each time unscrewing the brass bell a little.

Happy camper again
