Water storage in a Carbon 5th wheel

We just got a Carbon 5th wheel. It is a triple axel 41 ft. It has 100 gal fresh water tank. How much water can we put in it and then travel about 30 miles. The tech that did our walk through said we shouldn't travel with any water in the tank. Not sure I believe that. There is not always a water source on site when you are dry camping. Thank you.

No offense. But wtf. Isn't that what these are made for.? What if you are going for a dry camping trip. I say hog wash. Besides in a fifth wheel a toy would be way heavier ?

That's funny because we send all new units out with their new owner with full fresh water tanks.

Well I have the 300mp. It holds 110 gallons of water. I attest some of my wheel bearing issues due to having water in the tank and the sxs in the rear. I don't think that I would do both. I am thinking your dealer / service manager is trying to give you a good warning that others are saying anything about. Yes it should hold all the water and the toy inside. But I am convinced that the axles and tires wont hold up to it after changing two bearings on the side of the road and replacing an axle

Yeah at 100 gallons just that tank will add around 834 pounds and definitely traveling full would be a good test for the tank and it's supports. I am sure we have all carried a closed container filled with liquid Swishing around, it could be a load and interesting. The Raptor has a FWT capacity listed at 110 gallons but was not sure if that included the 12 gallons in the HWT??

Had a gray top replaced, cracked near top. FIRST thing tech asked was did you travel with this tank Full?? Answer NO. But did wonder why he asked. Tank replaced

I can understand not traveling with black/gray water, but sometimes you don't have a choice. Stayed on a guys farm in Nebraska for 2 nights. Went to leave and he wouldn't let me dump my gray, understood the black. Had to haul it to SD before I could dump.

Why would you have an rv with tanks if you cant move the thing when there full. This is what dry camping is all about. what are you suppose to do go in the woods when it time to got to the bathroom? I have traveled many times with my tanks full and never had a problem. If you cant travel with the tanks full then the manufacturer shouldn't put tanks in them.

Honestly there would be very few circumstances that would require me to ever travel more than a few miles with full tanks.
Especially gray and black water, too many dump stations along the way

Not sure what the tech had in mind, maybe he's seen some overloading issues. We often fill up the fresh and dry camp for 3 - 4 days, and dump on the way home. If we're headed out on a multi-day drive, we'll carry enough water for showers and such if we overnight at a Pilot/Flying J. At a minimum you would want enough fresh water to flush and wash up a bit. With triple axles it should'nt be an issue and as its new camper better to break it under warranty now .

Bear in mind that the OP was five-six months ago. Hopefully their issue is resolved.

When we go dry camping we go with full fresh water tank. Dump leftover fresh water when we leave. I’ve had four trailers with 2 of them toy haulers.

Some folks have had issues with tanks falling out when traveling. This was caused by poor tank installation.

Also, it's very dangerous to travel with the fuel station and propane tanks full, so keep those empty until you arrive at your destination!!!

Never heard that before.... Where did you get the information that propane tanks should be empty when towing?

That is absolutely false information! Propane tanks and fuel tanks are designed to be totally safe during transport when full.

I was offered a moderator's position here way back. It's posts like yours that remind me why I did not take the position.
