Rear hitch add-on

Hi,
I am thinking of adding a storage bin on the rear bumper of my 2012 outback, need to know if it is too much weight . I plan to put about150 lbs .inthere?
Thanks in advance, Luc

Your question or ones just like it about placing items on the bumper has been discussed at length here on the forum.

The best and safest solution is to reinforce by either welding or bolting additional supports to the bumper. There is general consensus that adding storage bins or any other heavy items on the bumper with first reinforcing it is not a good idea.

You can add a storage bin without first reinforcing the bumper and hope that it doesn't come away caused by the additional stress you are placing on it.

Your call.

(You can do a forum search of this topic ----- type in bike racks, storage bins, bumper, etc. and see what you come up with)

I had a custom size box built to ride on the bumper of my Outback but I had some serious bumper reinforcement done first.

I added a box.
I agree with the reinforcement.
I check my mounts, often.
