New Member Towing Setup Question

I just bought a new camper and already have a WD hitch and tow bars.

Dry weight 4,580, Tongue Weight 505.

My hitch is rated for 10K (Reese Hitch) tow bars 550lbs, they are stright and not curved at the end.

What kind of sway control can I add to the exsisting hitch? The RV shop is recommending one that goes to the side of the camper and a small ball on the exsisting hitch?

Will that be enough or do I need a dual cam sway control? That requires a different kind of tow bars (curved).

Thanks

Advice will be different depending on truck and trailer. Please list the truck and what trailer it is. It helps to list the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, Payload rating and lenght of trailer. Vehicle infor is on drivers door post (a white sticker). On trailer check for dry weight and loaded weight. With that information many on here can help.

In general, the single friction bar is good up to 25'. There is debate on dual friction bars. I don't have any experience with them so I won't make any opinion on them. For anything longer than 25', heavier setups like the Reese dual cam, Blue Ox sway pro, or Equalizer hitches seem to be what works. I run the dual cam and I am happy with it.

I just had a big problem with my Reese set up with the friction sway control... but ..also as spoke of in the post above my trailer is longer then 25'. I have a thread in this section...." bad sway..real bad" you might want to read. I had a great deal of help and advice there. Sounds like we had the same Reese set up. I went with the Blue Ox Sway Pro and the problem was solved...A totally different feeling now when towing. Still hard for me to believe the difference. Check it out and read some of the advice.. Hope it helps you out.

I have a Chevy 2500 pulling a 33' 9000lb (loaded) Laredo TT using the Reese Pro Series WD with a single sway bar. My trailer barely moves when being passed or when passing big rigs or anything else. Personally, I could not be happier with the way the trailer pulls using this set up. I just might be lucky with the trailer itself. Not sure why, but it works.
