Three axles and backing up
Just wondering how the flex is on three axles and to what degree you can cut them when backing up? Got a pretty tight drive to back up into try not to go in neighbors grass. Lol

I have a 410lev and have made some tight turns. The big thing is to go slow to allow tires to adjust.

Make sure you have good tires, and inflated properly. If you have low pressure you run the risk of rolling a tire off the rim.

Howdy;

Just remember that the more axles the wider the turning radius.
An aircraft carrier won't turn in the amount of space as a canoe...

I have our 410LEV in an outside storage facility...debating on how and where I can take it to wash and wax. Our drive is faily tight to back into as well. Our previous 5ver was 38' (total length) and I managed to get that in pretty easly...but only 2 axels and 5' shorter!

I'm considering giving it a try...maybe But it would great to have it home occasionally to clean up!

Good luck getting yours in the driveway!

Dodgeram................. , Howdy;

You could take it to a Mall parking lot and using the lines see what kinds of radius you can get to back into a space.
Pull perpendicular to the parking spaces, choose one to back into.
See how far in advance you need to start the turn and you can 'feel your way through'. Spend an afternoon, have fun!
Rather than tell you Practice, practice, practice. A friend of mine that is a fly tyer has a saying that goes;
"Perfect Practice makes for Perfect results."

They all turn the same - three axles pivot on the center axle, two axles pivot between the axles. The difference is the distance from the pin to the pivot point. In a 45 degree turn it looks like the tires are going to pop off, I wouldn't want to go more that unless I am on dirt.

How about turning in a cul de sac? Can I slowly jack knife to make the turn around? I haven't had to do this yet. I need to get mine to my house here soon.

Mr. Glenn, with all due respect...They do NOT all turn the same.

I have to agree with the above post....I do not change the tires any less on the center axle then I do on the front/rear axles because of tire wear to tire edges. For me to get into my house I have to make a Cul De Sac 180* on RAP which is alot rougher then new pave. So pretty sure it is not pivoting on the center axle as most trailer axles are not centered on the trailer.

Thanks for the link.. I back 53, 48, 28 semi trailer all day and you are rite it all depends on the position of the rear axles the more forward they are the quicker they turn and more back swing also the further back they are the slower the rear of the trailer swings around.

I have also backed 28, 45, 48, 53, and 57 foot trailers. A single axle will turn with a minimum of scraping (duals scrape the tires if you turn them sharp enough). Spread axle trailers will scrape more or less then a 3 axle trailer, depending on the spacing of the axles from the front to rear. I tow my trailer more or less level, and it pivots on the middle axle. Longer wheelbase trailers (from pin to axles) tend to be jacknifed sharper to make the same turn, and scrape more from being turned sharper. Longer trailers tend to outweigh shorter trailers (remember we are talking about rv's here), and you tend to get more axles and longer wheelbase at the same time. If you are toring nose up or down, (or the front or rear axle weighs more then the others) you will pivot other then the middle.

I also live at end of cul de sac and must turn 180 to back in drive and hated to watch tires scrub off now I send one of the kids to wet the street no more skid marks. What do have to watch is the back of the trailer swing out.

Be careful watering the street, it is far easier to cut a wet tire then a dry one (Not that I have a better idea, just make sure the street is clear of metal, glass, etc).
