Cleaning awning

What’s best to use to clean the awnings. Unrolled my awning first time this year and see it needs a cleaning. Will dish soap n a soft brush work?

Mix 1/4 cup of "blue Dawn", 1/2 cup of Clorox bleach and 1 gallon of warm water. Pour into a "hand pump sprayer".

Wet down the awning top and bottom.

Spray the mixture on the underside and the top of the awning.

Roll the awning up and let it sit (NOT IN THE SUN) for 30 minutes.

Unroll, brush gently and rinse well.

Allow to dry and use the same solution to small areas that need further attention.

Follow up with a liberal coating of Goodyear Aerospace 303 UV protectant. Allow to dry (in the shade) for several hours before storing the awning.

What JRTJH said. I probably got it from him actually. Worked fantastic. First time I did it, I had to scrub a little and do it twice even but it worked great. Since then I have done it ever few months during season and only needs done once and no scrubbing this far.

I used Simple Green concentrate mixed as directed, a bit stronger if very dirty, in a gallon pump up sprayer, while retracting the awning spray it down so it's fairly saturated once completely rolled up, let it sit for 20-30 minutes, unroll while scrubbing with a medium bristle brush til unrolled & rinse throughly.
Basically the same method on the roof, without the rolling up part, spray, let sit for a bit then scrub & rinse.
The SG, in my opinion, works just as well as the Dawn & bleach mix but smells much better.

Two "easy ways":

1. Get a short step ladder that allows you to reach the awning when rolled up.
Unroll the awning 1', apply 303 to the unrolled top. Move the ladder, unroll the awning another 2', apply to that 2' of unrolled awning, move ladder, unroll another 2'. Continue until the awning is coated with 303.

2. Unroll the awning, pull it down as low as possible and lock in that position. Use a "dollar tree broomstick/foam wax applicator (from the mop section) to apply 303 to the awning surface. When done, wash/rinse the foam part and store for next season. OR, if you need wood for a campfire, the handle can be cut to fit most firepits and the wire "foam holder part" can be bent to shape so you can hang beach towels off the awning arms...

I used LA Awesome on my awning. It worked well. Rinsed, sprayed on LA Awesome, rolled it up for 30 minutes, unrolled, sprayed a little more to brush the awning, rinsed, and let dry.
