Atlanta Area Camping

I just wanted to post this to anyone looking for a place in the Atlanta area.

DW, the kids and I just took a weekend trip to the Atlanta area to watch a friend’s son play in a baseball tournament. After what seemed like hours trying to find a campground to stay at, I made reservations at Sawnee Campground in Cumming Ga. It is a Federal campground located right on Lake Lanier. I was not able to find any good pictures of the sites themselves, but the pictures I did see were nice. I was not sure what we were going to find when we got there, but all I can say is WOW. Concrete pad for the camper, a separate pad that was probably 12’X30’ for the picnic table, grill and fire pit. Another 20 yards is the lake. 50AMP and water hookup, but no sewer.

I talked to a Park Ranger and he said that Old Federal Campground across the lake is nicer. Didn’t get a chance to check that one out, but I have a feeling we will before long. I attached a picture of the site we were on.
