Help! Awning Safety

I’m looking for the articulated plastic strap that went over the awning while it was rolled up against the sidewall. It was to keep the awning from ballooning out. You used the metal wand to clip and unclip it. They came in black and white. I’ve Googled and looked at Camping World but have not found them. I had two on the Alfa I sold.

Brand Name or link. 👍

I've owned several RVs with awnings, never had these devices on any of them & never had an awning unfurl while traveling. My last rv also had slide toppers & had no problems with them either.
Am I just lucky or is this a real issue with most awnings?
In all our travels I've only witnessed 1 awning unfurl while being towed, but to be honest the entire rv was in a serious state of disrepair so I just assumed the awning was too.

The only time I ever had an awning "unfurl" (and that was just the first roll of fabric billowing as we were towing) was on an old style manual Carefree awning with manual locks on the awning vertical support arms. Yep, I had forgotten to lock (fold down) the front support arm lock. It was "my fault" that I skipped, missed, forgot, omitted, or ??? that important step....

Nobody to blame except myself and it wasn't a "product failure". As soon as I unrolled the awning, rolled it back up and folded down both arm locks, we never had another "awning unfurling issue"...

You’re lucky. I was going from Reno to Bishop and didn’t heed the high wind warning. The awning didn’t complete unfurling and didn’t know I had a problem until I went to open the awning. It was a manual Carefree and the ribbon was hanging out the back. I had made 1” wide web straps with buckles for the arms. When I open part of the vinyl had blown off the fabric.

When I was driving semis, I was crossing Arizona and New Mexico on I-40 I saw 4 or 5 that were on the side of the road trying to repair it enough to travel or cutting them away for the same reason. Certain areas and time of year you can see the “dead” ones on the shoulder.
