Loose inside step

Walking up and moreso down on steps from rear den to main floor...center step is very loose. The downward pressure pushes it away fr om the step above.

Anyone know how the inside steps are secured?

Suggestions on how to secure would be greatly appreciated!! Very dangerous as it is....

While ours is a Montana High Country, 'assume' that Keystone assembled the Montana the same way with screws and staples, hundreds of staples. If that set of steps is fully inside of a wall space, the carpet is wrapped around the sides with even more staples. If you want to pull the steps out, you will most likely find that they are really carpeted rectangular boxes set one atop the other and screwed together. Not an easy fix. But, with that said, you can carefully drive screws though the top tread and carpet at the riser. With ours, I pulled the steps out, reinforced/glued the tread to riser interface then reinstalled the boxes, installing new almost matching carpet (better stuff) since you have to destroy the existing to remove the assembly.

Oh and those step boxes - they all may be different heights.

Are the steps carpeted? First, I would try to determine if the step in question is an access panel to something (water pump, central vac, furnace etc.). If the carpet is continuous and the step is sliding around within the confines of the carpet, then feel along the ends of the step - you might find screw heads hidden in the pile. Before I modified our steps for storage, the step treads were held down by two very short screws on each end. The screws were driven into the "end grain" of the step frame and were not at all solid or tight. Pictures would help.

Im thinking the small brads on the wood borders are holding down the step?

If those stairs go up to the upper portion of a fifth wheel, then you can probably remove the back wall of the basement and access the bottom of the stairs for a better fix.
