Cover Wear?

I have noticed that the edges (sides) of my roof look as if the white has worn or been rubbed by the winter cover. Cover is as tight as I can make it when I put it on.

Will this wearing cause any problems with the EPDM roof? It only looks as if the white has worn down.

Re: Cover Wear?

That is the reason I have a cover in like new condition, only used one year in my shed for seven years. After it wears through the white it wears through the black down to the plywood. Then it is time for an Eterna-bond patch sealed with lap sealant.
If it sounds like I am not a fan of covers ...... I'm not.
Since you may have caught it in time you have two options .... ditch the cover or figure some way to secure some form of cushion in all of the areas that may rub. I would apply a patch where the white as been removed just to be sure it is not too thin or coat it with brush on roof coating. (that is actually what the white that wore off is.)

Re: Cover Wear?

Recoat the area as mentioned. Others have been successful using something to protect the edge such as a swim noodle.

Re: Cover Wear?

Interesting, I never thought about the edges wearing from the covers. I have used covers for many years now and never noticed it. Perhaps because my previous units (2 MH at least 30 yrs old) were old and worn already. Now that I have a new TT (2017 mdl yr) I must have concern and now come up with a way not to have the wearing the edges. I like the noodle suggestion.

Re: Cover Wear?

Personally, I never had any wearing on my previous RVs that I covered either, but I've heard of it happening. Don't know what the combination is that results in it.
