Black waste valve
I have a 2011 Alpine 3640RL that needs the black tank waste valve replaced. Can you please tell me what brand waste valves are in this unit?
Thank you

They are probably Valterra, but you'll want to inspect the valve before ordering. The manufacturer's name should be molded into the plastic.
I replaced one a few years back and it was pretty easy after things were cleaned enough to work on it. Just remove 4 bolts, slide the old valve out and replace with the new. Follow manufacturer's instructions on the package regarding lubrication, etc. If there are new gaskets and bolts included with the new valve, use them. Don't try to reuse the old ones.
The only complication that you might run into is if it is a cable controlled valve. Look it over carefully to make sure that the basic valve assembly will connect up to your existing cable.
Also, it if is a cable controlled valve, make sure you know what needs to be replaced. A bad cable can make a good valve appear nonfunctional.

Thanks. Doesn't appear that there's any name on my valve nor does it look like anything I've seen on the internet. I've attached a picture. Certainly not a Valterra. I'll have to wait and call Keystone on Tues. Looks like something they came up with. Wonder if it's interchangeable with something more common?

I know on my 2013 Keystone fiver, the valves are "Bristol" brand. I had to replace one of mine. Actually I bought one with cable aassembly to replace mine that wouldn't close. It turned out to be a cloth wipe stuck in the gate valve groove. Once I removed the valve, removed the wipe, then reinstalled the valve, it had worked good since then.
My black and gray tanks about 12" apart with a T fitting and 2 drain valves in between. The black valve was not easy to remove. I ended up having to wedge 2 x 4 pieces of lumber in between both tanks to flex the tanks enough to spread them and allow the valve to drop for removing. Once I figured this out, it was easy.
Btw, fill, flush and drain the black tank about 10 times before you attempt to remove the valve. Ask me how I know?

I found, after some searching, that your valve is a Lasalle Bristol Cable Activated RV Waste Valve. None of the usual online suppliers seem to carry them, but there are quite a few on Ebay. Leads me to think it might be a discontinued item.
However, manual valves from that manufacturer are widely available. That suggests that if you only need to replace the blade or base housing, it might be doable.
I suspect you'll want to talk to the parts desk folks for some info on interchangeability.

Yes, Steve I looked them up on ebay. Exactly what mine is. I may have to buy one just to use the pieces/parts that I need.

I bought an entire valve assembly with cable online delivered for $64. I ended up not needing it or any parts off it, so now I have a spare. I'm sure I will need it someday.
If you search my posts, I have one explaining what I did to remove/repair mine.
Also, I read on this forum sometime ago that the Bristol and Valterra valves are interchangeable. I have not confirmed that however. Also, when changing valves, have some plumbers grease or petroleum jelly on hand. Applying to the seals helps hold them in place when seating the valve.

Went ahead and purchased a Bristol cable actuated on Ebay even though I don't need the cable. I'll have a spare. Valterra was able to confirm that the valve bodies are interchangeable, but nobody was able to confirm that the Bristol cable was compatible with the Valterra valve.

Threads like this have convinced me that having a backup valve as insurance is probably a good idea.

Black waste valve
Lasalle Bristol valves use a braided S.S. cable while Valterra use a solid S.S. cable. The 3" valve are an exact interchange including the cables that come with the new valves. The 1 1/2" valve is slightly different. The Bristol's shape and size are different. The Bristol's bolt pattern is slightly smaller. You can put a Valterra 1.5" on a Bristol 1.5" flange but it takes a bit of tweaking. I changed my 3" Bristol valves over to Valterra and left my Bristol 1.5 alone. I'm much happier with the Valterra's over the Bristol. They are so much smoother and have a solid firm feel when opened and closed. The Bristol's feel spongy.
