Brake Controller Setting....GMC3500
Truck is 13 GMC 3500HD. I know there is a process to follow and I have done it but it seems strange my brake controller is near max on a Cougar 29REV TT. For others with HD integrated brake controller.....are you setting yours high? Am wondering whether I have an issue with my trailer brakes or wiring.

I run mine at max (10v), and when manually activating, I still can't lock the trailer brakes.

Running 12 volts through a long length of wire can have a effect on braking action. If you were to run heavier gauge wire on the TT you would probably see an improvement.

I run a 2013 Ram 3500 with the integrated controller.
I run 8.5 on mine also. It will run 7.5 but it pulls better and feels better on 8.5.

At first I had it set at 10 and could not feel if they were working, last time out I used the hand control and the wheels were locking up so I lowered it to about 8 and we were good. Definately a different feel going from a F150 with an after market installed brake controller to a F350 with a factory installed controller.

Found 2.5 on my integrated controller was too much... Went to 2.0 and in works very well. I always wonder if the higher settings may have something to do with the trailer brakes not being adjusted correctly? I had also heard from the dealer that these integrated controllers on mine (2014)were way to sensitive. For what its worth

Mine is usually set at 7...7 1/2 but with the Ford Towhaul it helps slow me down. Tires last longer too!

Mine is and has been set at 2.0 no problem at all. With our fantastic Allison Transmission , Sorry FORD guys, and using the tow mode very seldom am I on the brakes If the Allison can not handle the very steep down grade PUSH the diesel exhaust brake, guaranty that will do it

10 in the dry and back off to 8 when it's wet There is also a difference in braking power depending on which magnets you have go to the Dexter web site and look under brake parts The 5200lb axles have white wire magnets and the 6000lb's have black wire magnets they both interchange but have different braking power
