Ford 2011 F250 / F350 opinions

I've been looking at swapping out for a new tow vehicle and found a very nice used 2011 F350 6.2L 6-speed trans. Any owners out there have comments on the truck / engine / transmission reliability. Will be towing a Premier 31BHPR.

The 2011 Superduty lineup only had two engine options, a 6.2L gas engine as standard order and a 6.7L diesel option. The last year for the 6.4L diesel was 2010, so if the engine you list is correct, the truck is not a 2011 year model.

Realistically, either option, the 6.2L or the 6.7L will tow your trailer with no difficulty.

Since the vehicle is "used" there is always a potential for problems. Upkeep by the previous owner, vehicle history and current condition are always factors to consider. Without knowing the history of that specific vehicle, it may or may not be a good buy. However, the 2011 Superduty in general is a quality vehicle with a good reputation and is a good towing platform. A large number of forum members tow with the 2011 Superduty with both the gas and diesel engines.

Yep, meant 6.2L not 6.4L. It's definitely a 2011.

I have a 2013 XLT 6.2L with the same 6 speed transmission. It's capable, quiet and except that it has an "addiction to gas", it's a great vehicle.

The only significant difference in the 2011 and the 2013 is bigger brakes, otherwise they are pretty much the same vehicle. I'm satisfied with mine and it tows our 31' fifth wheel well. It's comfortable and sure-footed even in ice and snow. Depending on the condition and history, it could be an excellent upgrade to tow your trailer. Remember, it is significantly bigger than a half ton truck so measure first if you're planning to park it inside a garage.

Yes, that's definitely one of the prerequisites. I'm not about to start parking a vehicle outdoors full time here in MN. The unheated garage is cold enough in January.

I love mine

I have the 6.2 gas and love the truck. It is the crew cab short bed. I tow our Fuzion Toy Hauler and handles it very well. The only trouble I had was a defective thermostat and was covered under warranty. I have a tuner installed and cannot say I got any more power but I sure love the new shift points on the towing tune. I have about 48K on it and have no complainants. The Fuzion is a bumper pull I have a Hensley hitch and air bags to help with a slight squat. The ability to manually shift or lock out a higher gear I have found to be a great thing to have. Just a quick push of a button and you are done.

While I wouldn't own a gas pickup for towing, the basic truck is sound and you shouldn't have any trouble with it as long as the previous owner didn't beat it up. I know I really like my '12

I have the 2013 F350 Lariat. 6.2 Gasser it has 4,300 miles and I tow a Outback 2014 about 8,000lbs with not problems. Love the truck and it's performance

I have a 2011 ford f250-6.2 gas, i pull a cougar 325srx with it.

Love the truck- 36000+ trouble free miles.

My biggest complaint with the truck ( and all new cars) is the gas pedal is fly by wire. Its connected to a computer, not the throttle body. So if you floor it the computer decides how fast or how far to open it. It will only go to 50% below 4000 rpm.

In my quest to get better throttle response, I added a 5 star tunning kit and cold air intake. This adds about 50hp (its the kid in me) it feels like it add a lot more- but it hurt the mileage some, mainly because now it is so much fun to drive.

I just upgraded the tires on it- and looking forward to towing with new tires and tuner. Good luck.

Additional question... How do people like the brake controller in their 250 / 350? Does it work / work well?

My current vehicle is a Toyota Sequoia which doesn't have a brake controller. I had been researching and planning to get a Prodigy P3 brake controller. But since the new truck would come with one that is integrated, I'll definitely use that unless it is junk.

I have a 2008 F-350 Dually and absolutely love the truck. The brake controller has worked flawlessly over many thousands of miles.

braker controller

I have a 2008 F250 diesel with intergrated brake controller and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread... It was so much smoother than my after markets on my other trucks. Now I am not so sure. My 2012 trailer just decided it wouldn't stop out of the blue. I have had both the trailer and the truck checked out and each dealer tells me its not the trailer or controller. Yet I smoked my from brakes at 36,000. The front pads got so hot the pad lost the bonding and let go from the pad. I think it is the controller but I am not sure. I have replaced the electrical plug on the truck and I can hear the trailer brakes hit but when I use the lever on the controller it only slows us down. Before I could grab the level and it would lock the trailer up now...
