"President Joseph R. Biden today signed an executive order declaring that up to half of all new cars sold by 2030 must be electric. Take a moment to spit out your coffee, do a double-take, or engage in whatever expression of surprise suits you."

These decrees, coupled with actions taken to eliminate fossil fuels, are directly aimed at forcing EVs on the masses.

EVs are an interesting discussion. I have some very strong feelings about them and how/why they are being forced. The reasons are both ideological and political....very political. Please keep that in mind as these discussions occur because the topic can veer very quickly.

Thanks for that, I hadn't been able to find that.

So doing the math, if about 17 million vehicles are sold in the US each year, that's somewhere between 7 and 8.5 million EVs to be sold in 2030. That's a lot of vehicles to be sold to urban and suburban residents leaving 8.5 to 10 million vehicles to be sold to rural residents (a smaller demographic compared to people living in urban or suburban areas) and people who still need an ICE-based vehicle for their needs. Technology will most likely change a lot in the next 7 years, so who knows where we will land.

A quick, half minute search gave me the following EV mandate by flannel mouth (aka the gov) for Minnefornia. The DFL (dumb for lifers) here just love following CA.

And, I just cannot come up with one single reason as to why I would want to drive an EV. I need a truck to tow a camper, horse trailer, flat bed trailer, etc. No EV will do that. Wait! It *might* be able to tow my snowmobile trailer! I need a car I can run around in, sometimes up to 800 miles in a day. No EV will do that in a reasonable amount of time either. And, for the argument that ICE vehicles burn more often than EV? Yep. They may, but their fires can also be extinguished in a reasonable amount of time with a reasonable amount of water…..

The only reason gas vehicles burn more often the EVs is because there are many more millions of them and many are much older. Heck, they even warn about the danger with the lithium batteries in an e bike.

Another little blurb on EVs and their supposed ability to operate more economically than a gas engine. The difference will continue to grow as the price of producing electricity keeps rising:

"According to a January study from the Anderson Economic Group, rising electricity prices — combined with softer gas prices — made EVs more expensive to fuel than gas-powered cars at the end of 2022.

“In Q4 2022, typical mid-priced ICE car drivers paid about $11.29 to fuel their vehicles for 100 miles of driving,” [the study says. “That cost was around $0.31 cheaper than the amount paid by mid-priced EV drivers charging mostly at home, and over $3 less than the cost borne by comparable EV drivers charging commercially.”

I knew this too. But when I’ve tried explaining to people that it’s a matter of quantity (more ICE vehicles out there than EVs), it goes flying over their heads. The math skills needed to understand what I’ve said just isn’t there. It’s a lot like handing a cashier cash (paper and coins) for a purchase and expecting to get exact change back when their register is down or they keyed it into the register wrong - it isn’t going to happen 90% of the time.

They’re talking about driveable campers.

Just watched Mayor Adams unveil the state's most power charging system. Big ceremony. Next day it had police tape and a notice it wasn't function. A maintenance guy was asked why and he indicated there wasn't enough power...

It was just posted on FB that the largest charging station in Arizona is in a little town about 1/2 way between Phoenix & Tucson, Eloy.
It says 28 charging stations. The aerial view of it bragging it up shows 1 vehicle parked at it.
In the same area they're building the Nikola battery powered trucks. We've been seeing them regularly towing a flat bed trailer with several large concrete blocks. I suppose testing them out. I find it odd that they're all cabover body style. As they come towards you they remind me of the Star Wars storm troopers, all white with a trigular shape grill.

One more I can add into the “useless EV” file.

As i've always said EV's are a great idea BUT technology wise they wouldn't be there for another 20 years.

Yep, EV's are definitely NOT READY for Prime Time !!!!!

Currently, they are "a different approach" (nothing more) to ICE powered vehicles that might work for some people, but they are NOT the "answer for most applications currently used for travel by the majority of ICE buyers".....

Once every location gets those "22 outlet surge protectors and reliable 2000 watt solar generators" maybe, but for now, the grid simply can't (and won't) support any hope of a "nation wide conversion to EV's".....

There is NOTHING even close to enough allocations in any state budget or in the federal budget to pay for the costs to upgrade the grid to provide enough power for a "future conversion to EV use"....

Maybe in 10 or 20 or 30 years, but right now and the next 5 years: Ain't happenin' ...

Well I have a Lightning and a Mach E and my insurance was cheaper, surprised me too. BTW Ice cars/trucks catch fire too and fairly frequently.
I don’t miss the gas station😂

A guy pulled into the campground here in Myrtle pulling a tandem axle trailer with his F150 lightning, said he gets about 130 miles between charges and and a fast charger gets him going to about 80% in 20-30 minutes. He said he has no issues where he goes, but wouldn't want to do any big trips yet because of the lack of infrastructure. He said he didn't feel the trailer behind him.

He setup camp and then went and used the charger at the camp store.

Well TX may be on to something though. Just read that both houses of the legislature have passed bills to add an additional $200 in taxes yearly to any EV being registered since they don't use fuel. I quickly sent the governor a note and said that really needs to be $2000.
