RAM Blower Motor

For you RAM types the blower motor on mine went intermittent, which I find can be a semi-common issue. I pulled the motor and found dried leaves in the squirrel cage. The way it's mounted it acts like a bowl holding anything that might migrate down through the system. I blew it all out, including the dusty commutator area, reinstalled it with dielectric grease on the connector and it works great.

The motor speed switch runs the blower speed first three speeds through a resistor. The last, high speed position is direct voltage to the blower motor for high speed, so if you have an issue with the first three speed selections, the issue might be with the resistor. Any trash in the squirrel cage will eventually overheat the resistor and it will fail.

All this is accessible under the dash on the passenger side. In fact, it is easy for the passenger to kick the blower motor housing.

I had the problem with the resistor on my 02 Ram. I did the DIY fix and it lasted until I traded it in (2013).

THE EARLY TRUCKS DI NOT HAVE FILTERS. there was a filter kit for Geno's garage. they advertised in the Turbo diesel registry club's mag. I think they are still in biz. The filter mounted under the plastic heater intak grill under the hood. it was an easy install.

Just a "recent discovery" that I made when I decided to change the cabin filter on my DW's Escape. Seems that it was "missing".... Hmmmm, We bought the car new, so where'd the filter go? After talking to several Ford parts departments, I learned that Ford doesn't install a cabin filter at delivery. The "empty hole" is there for an owner who elects to "filter their cabin air". ????? The local service department says that only a "select few" Fords come with cabin air filters installed. Most have the "empty slot" for owners to add a filter if they want one..... I'm not sure about GM or Chrysler, but Ford has gone the route of "saving a buck".... I wonder if oil filters, fuel filters and engine air filters are next ???
