No more digging for water hose

Found a Water hose reel at Lowes that fits perfectly under the Cougar between the frame and skirt. Screwed it to the floor with 8 wood screws(probably overkill, but won't fall off any time soon). Took the hose inlet off the wall(just a small clip holding it on), drilled a hole through the floor, and ran it through to the hose reel. Put a female coupling between the 35' water hose and the reel connection(didn't want to cut my new hose end to put a female end on it). Now, when I get ready to hook up, I don't have to dig through storage for the hose(which is usually under the lawn chairs and lawn rug). I just grab the end of the hose, pull, and hook to park water. I originally had a clamp to hold the hose from unwinding while driving down the road, but the skirt stops the reel from unwinding easily.Click image for larger version

Looks like a convenient modification. My only concern would be mud, sand and road grime getting on the hose connector making it a "dirty job" to connect the water line. Otherwise, nice addition !

I really like the idea and the way you did it but..... I would be a little hesitant that the hose reel itself could stand up to the prolonged jarring it would take and if it goes it falls right in front of the tires. One thing for sure I would drain the hose each time just to reduce the weight but then of course that would almost require loosening the fitting so it would drain which sort of negates the whole idea in the first place. Just food for thought and I really do hope it works for you but I'm a bit skeptical.

I was curious how well this modification held up. Any problems? I hate storing the hose.

I also assume you have to pull all of the off the reel to get good water flow or is the hose stout enough not to get pinched off? Great idea IMO. I have thought about doing something like that too but maybe in storage compartment. Dunno just rambling now,,sorry. It does look good.

It's still holding up after numerous trips. I haven't had any problems at all. I roll it up and put a PVC plug on the end. There's just enough hose so that when its wound up, the metal coil on the hose end catches on the lip of the reel brace, keeping it from unwinding.

Hose is stout enough that I can get unrestricted flow regardless of how much I reel out. It's a 35' drinking hose from Walmart. This is one of my favorite mods that actually worked like I had planned. Some of my mods have to be "modded", or just plain didn't work. Good luck to you.

Great idea, I would like to do the same, however I purchased a plastic hose reel last summer, and wound a 50 ft hose on it. Said it would hold 150 ft, but after the water drained after first use, then pressurized on the next use, the entire assembly imploded from the pressure of the collapsed hose refilling. Maybe I'll look for a light weight aluminuminuminum (lol...just had to say that) one before attempting this....Thanks for the idea though!

I found reel at Lowes, but haven't seen it in stock in a while. It's a ReelEasy Portable Hose Caddy. You can see it at Ames.com. I just got lucky that the 35' hose and the size of the reel fit very well under the trailer skirt. A half inch bigger, and it would not have worked.
