Stove top propane shut off

For some reason my wife always leaves the propane stove on until I notice the smell.anyway to have a convenient shutoff so she doesn't kill us all? I don't want tho close the bottles since we use the heater, fridge etc. Any suggestions?

With a valve, and proper flaring tools, you could plumb in a shut off. One problem would be where to put it. Once that is figured out, a trip to the hardware store for copper tubing, valve and the flaring tool if you don't have it and your on your way. If you do add a valve, be sure to test for leaks BEFORE calling it done. Soapy water works, or you can purchase a solution of leak detector. BEST way is to use a Manometer, but not many people have one.

I can only wish you good luck with installing another "cut-off" for the stove. If you think about it, each burner control is a "cut-off" valve already. If your wife is having problems remembering to turn off the existing valves, good luck trying to get her to remember yet another valve.

Bad situation. Make a Lexan, flip-up cover for the knobs. Hinge it with clear boxing tape.

Definitely not a good situation as mentioned by Desert185, and as JRTJH said, you already have built in shut offs that are built in, not jury rigged.

I would check with a store like "Babies R Us" or even maybe Lowes or Home Depot to see about childproof knobs or covers that require a conscious effort to over-ride them prior to turning on the gas.

Another thought... Get some pinstripe size tape of a color that will contrast with the color of your knobs. Apply it to the full face of the nob so that 12 o'clock position means off. You probably already have an indicator on the knob, but this would be much more visible.

Good luck!
