Heads up if you use Aqua-Kem "toss-ins"

I changed to these early this year and thought they was the cat's *** but it turns out they are trouble! I have discovered that the "plastic bag" that is suppose to dissolve in water is not doing so and they are just dumping out with the solids. I had one snag on the inside of the dump hose and that is how I found out they don't work, it still had the blue powder inside it as a clump of blue paste. So today at work I took one and tossed it into a 5 gallon bucket half full of water and at the end of the day it was still floating on top, not dissolving at all! Watch out for these...........

Thanks for the info. Just confirms my choice to use liquid, which I have since 1987.

Thank you for your input about using liquids.

I have used Tank Tech RX liquid for the last years and have never had any black tank problems.

I have pretty much used plain old liquid dish soap and water in both my black and grey tanks after dumping and I've never had an issue...

Dawn dish soap and powdered Calgon water softener here. That works great for us.

We have only used liquid since we had our first trailer. We have never had a black tank problem. I would never switch.

Yeh we have been camping for years and only using the liquids for ever and then we got a free sample of these and the wife likes them because there is no measuring the liquid. I don't think they have all the kinks worked out???

FWIW I don't measure how much liquid I pour in. I probably over do it, but I never have an odor problem.

Dollar store fabric softener. Blue bottle can't remember the name but it's cheap.

And we dump when we get to camp so everything has been sloshing around for a while.

Wow thanks for the heads up...I have used these off and on and wondered about why I still had tank smell? I checked and sure enough the last one I used didn't breakdown the packet Will be switching to liquid too.

Never heard of anyone using bleach before. Do you use it every time you clean the tank or occassionally?

If you are dumping into a septic system, bleach kills the bacteria which are essential for the septic tank to break down waste by consuming the solids. Food for thought, if you'll pardon the pun.

I'm on a septic system, and every time we do a load of laundry, the bacteria lives just fine. It's not like a whole lotta bleach is gonna be used.

I for one like the toss ins, but I don't just toss them in. I place in the bowl than pour water on them until they burst open and then flush them down (I always add 2 gallons of water after flushing and then some ice cubes when pulling out). By the way I use the Wardley (sp) brand toss ins, I don't care for any of the Aqua-Kem products, liquid or toss in.

I found the same thing with the Aqua-Kem, bought a used 5th wheel and the previous owner left them in it. I was throwing them down the toilet and figured it had to work. Well was dumping and thought one went floating on out the clear elbow. So I did the same test, put one in the toilet and left it for a few hours. Sure as **** went back and there is was bulged but not popped open. Went to Wal-Mart bought the Camco Drop Ins and within 10 minutes it was dissolved in the toilet. Moral of the story not all Drop Ins are created equal.

Since I first read this, I have been tearing the bags open and pouring them down the drain, don't want to waste them, but may switch to one or more of the alternative ideas I've read here. I like the fabric softener idea...
