Strut placement

I have a king bed in my trailer with a topper. Ordered my lift kit from Hatchlift and they told me I needed the stiffest cylinder they had. After installing per their directions (at the foot of the bed) the bed would not lower. Thought maybe a different cylinder would be the fix. But I did some experimenting and found that moving the cylinders to the head of the bed worked perfectl. Good luck

I put in a set, and the first time I closed the bed, it pulled the screws out.
That's when I found out the bed platform was built like a hollow core door. The platform and the enclosure were pretty much 1/4" paneling.
I bought a sheet of 1/2" plywood, and reinforced the top, sides, and front. Works great now.
The pressure of the struts is adjusted by the angle. Steeper (more verticle)=stronger.

I put on stronger struts because of the heavier topper and now the bed throws me into my headboard at night. Did I overkill ??

Were the originals so weak that the topper made a difference? How many lbs. lift did you go from/to? I believe those struts come in 20lb. increments which if you just went up one shouldn't throw a human body into the headboard.
