Traded up!

DW said Cougar XLite 28RLS too small for guests travelers. Traded up to Montana 3720RL. TT to 5th wheel. Needed new F250 to complete the deal. Cougar was only 3 months old. Some will get a barely used TT with all the accessories I bought for it.

That's great. Post some pictures of your new rig.

I'm all in that 250 2500's are more capable than the 10,000 lb rating, but looking up that beautiful trailer it may be in the 350 3500 range....

If you haven't bought that new F250, you might want to do some "number crunching" before you get too far into the deal making. The Montana 3720 is a 40' fifth wheel with an empty pin weight of 2820 pounds. Loaded for travel, that'll be closer to 3000-3200 pounds, a "sizeable payload" for any F250, and if you're looking at Lariat, KR or Platinum packages, your payload will probably be less than 2000 pounds. That'll overload the truck before you get any passengers or cargo in the mix.

That trailer is in the F350 SRW or possibly the F350 DRW category !!!

^^What he said. Looks like you are biting off more than a 250/2500 can chew...safely.

Agree with all the above, except.....if you have to go Ford, you had better make it a dually. F350 SRW CC diesel will be doing good to have 3300# payload.
The 2017 aluminum model? I don't know.

Congrats on the New Rig

Let us know how the new F250 pulls your new rig. Should be a great set up. F250s rock.

Spend an extra $1k and get a F350/3500. You possibly will not be legal with a F250/2500 and could have insurance issues in case of an accident. Always get more truck than you think you need....because you really do need it!!

While some think you have to stay 10 to 20 % below listed capacities for towing trailers ( for a margin of safety ). I've always believed one can pull or carry up to the ratings of the truck and I have done so, but that is one combination I would not attempt. Will it pull it? No doubt. Can it safely carry it? Probably not. On this one I'm in agreement with most of the others, that trailer is in F350 SRW territory if not DRW.

Traded up!

Looked at 350DRW today. Talking to Ford in the morning. Found a site that explained how I would be 2500# over GVWR for F250 and 1500 for F350.

Nice 5er, glad to hear you looked up some data on payload. Have fun and you will have enough truck.

Glad to see you're looking at the 350. My Alpine has very similar numbers as your Montana. I used to pull a 35' 5er, only a few hundred lbs lighter on the pin, with a 2500. I didn't think the step up to our Alpine was that big of a deal, but the first tow told me otherwise. I could definitely feel the difference, tail wagging the dog effect. I stepped up to the dually and have never looked back. Towing with an extra 2 feet on the ground is a huge difference. My opinion (echoed by pretty much everyone who has ever towed with a dually), for your families safety, for your physical relaxation, go with a dually. Trust me, when you arrive at your destination, you will feel much better, more relaxed, less muscle tension, etc. I have towed a lot of trailers for a lot of miles, never knew what I was missing.

Bought the 350DRW. RV dealer says Pullrite 20k hitch. Sound right?

I've got the 18k. I'd absolutely do the 20k too.
If this is a short-bed truck, be aware that it's likely you'll need a slider. And if you don't want to get out, a PullRight 20k auto-slider.

Take a look at the B&W hitches also. Great, heavy duty construction.

Congrats on the new truck! You should have a great time towing without any issues about worrying.
