Hello! We are new members to this forum but not new members to RV camping. We bought our first fifth wheel, a 19 foot Chateau in 1998. Our previous camping was done in tents or backpacking to lean-tos, so the Chateau was luxurious to us even though we had to crawl into the bed! We have owned 3 other fifths prior to our recent purchase of a Cougar 24rds fifth, which we will be picking up on Saturday.
We hope to find great ideas on this forum that will allow us to continue experiencing wonderful excursions around the country.

How are liking the 24rds?
It is one we are considering but the only question mark is the 30 gal black tank.
Do you boondock at all and if so, how does this smallish tank affect your trips?

We do not boondock. We like the Cougar because it is a good size for the two of us and has some updated features (We had our 28.5 Jayco for 11 years which had a small but comfortable bunk room for our granddaughter who we raised since infancy.) which we like. No problem with size of black tank, we can go a few days without emptying so it can slosh around. We have had problems with it though. The sofa/refrigerator slide prevents us from accessing the bathroom or bedroom while it is in; and due to a factory issue we assume the gas line along that slide which effects the fridge became crimped the second day of along trip. Luckily we caught it and my husband jeryrigged something each time we either had the slide move out or in. Not the best way to spend time on a trip, luckily we didn't move from place to place daily...we stayed for 4+ days wherever. The other issue, the yucky one, is about the black tank valve. When we first used the camper for its trial run the valve worked beautifully for those 3 days. On our long trip not well at all. The valve leaked and yuck filled the tube causing quite a mess. My husband again came up with a solution so the "mess" was controlled but not the way things should work.
So, now our new camper is in for warranty repairs...we hope all this gets fixed and we can really enjoy the camper. FYI we never had any such issues with the Jayco. We would have gone with Jayco again, but their smaller campers did not have the layout we liked this time around.
Hope this helps. It's been over two weeks since we put our camper in for repairs...hoping for good news soon.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Those 2 issues sound kind of random but who knows? Good luck getting them fixed and enjoy your new 5W. Keep us posted on the outcome if you will.
Anybody else have this model and care to share your thoughts?
