Washington DC
we are going to be in the DC area next week. Anyone have experience with campgrounds in that area, not in DC but in the area. We have a 40' toyhauler and we are looking for a place that isn't so pricey not a cheapskate but I am disabled and on a budget. thanks in advance for any input. George

We stayed at Cherry Hill CG in May and loved it! Very convenient to the Metro. We drove to a nearby station and parked. Worked well. People are very nice!
Highly recommend Cherry Hill CG.

Cherry Hill was excellent. Shuttle bus will pick you up at campground and take you to Metro.

BTW.....we stayed toward the back row....backed up to woods that bordered the nature trail. Liked no one behind us. I think road was called Appalachian Trail.

We stayed at Green Belt National Park in our 40' Fuzion. No hook-ups but if you are self contained a good base camp for a few days.

We are thinking of heading down there this year, maybe Sept. might spend a couple night in NY on the way. Guessing it will not be too crowded in Sept.

Washington DC is closed until we see white smoke from the Capitol building. Still no budget.

Can't speak for campgrounds, but I'll highly recommend using the Metro to get in and out of DC itself. It's clean, it's safe, and it's quick. You'll find a number of attendants at every station that will help you purchase passes that you'll need to use the Metro. They are friendly and will bend over backwards to take care of you.
One of the Metro stops comes up right in front of the Smithsonian Castle at the center of the Mall. If you are planning a day in DC around the memorials and buildings on the Mall, this is the way to go. There are similar stops near to most any museum or other place that you'd want to visit.

Pohick Bay Regional Park in Virginia is a good base camp too. Metro is nearby.

Gotta agree with Steve 100%. Metro is the way to get around DC!. Metro is close to Cherry Hill CG. There is even a bus that runs from the CG to the station but we drove it each time. We even took our bikes on the Metro to bike tour DC at night.

Good info here, been to DC a couple times but not camping. A story that I can laugh at now, one Memorial Day Weekend, had to park in a garage because there were so many cars there, did not realise the garage closed at 6 so we were stranded, it happened to a few others as well and they actually came down around 9:30 to let us out.
