An RV crash to remember

I was not able to figure out how to embed a youtube video...

Appears driver did not have any sway or weight distribution bars.

I have seen that video before, no sway control or easy lift would of helped that situation, it was side wind that caused that problem. From the beginning to end of video, tt was continually being pushed sideways at times, toward the end of the video the guy with the red jacket is blowing in the wind. I have been in windy situations many times before and best thing to do is pull over and wait it out. Last year I passed 2 5vers blown over near Twin Falls Id. on I84 and about 30 miles before that is where we pulled over to wait for the wind to calm down some what. No need to get in a hurry to get somewhere in very windy conditions, just is not worth it, need to use common sense at all times, oh and check your mirrors once in awhile and see what your trailer is doing behind you. Happy Campin............Ron

as a new owner of a 5er, what wind speed should you stop and wait it out?! We have heard a few horror stories and don't want to get caught.
Thanks!

Hi Riceman. Driving directly into wind generally is not a problem, but from the side is dangerous at times with high wind. As far as wind speed also somewhat depends on how fast your driving, but also does not. If you are struggling to keep the outfit on the road straight from blowing side winds, it just might be time to pull over. Keep and eye on other vehicles on the road like semis and watch there trailers, and also keep an eye on your own trailer sway, that will tell you alot. Every situation is different, as stated before just use common sense and your best judgment. Happy Campin..........Ron

RON That was the best advice ever given. I go over a two lane bridge over the hudson river. and the winds can get wild. i crawl over it.

Thanks Sabdoctor, I try. The new bridge over Hoover Dam is that way, when traveling East bound they want you to move to left lane against the divider because of high winds, I have never seen that before till now. I have pulled horse trailers all my life and we don't have to worry about them going over with high winds, but these fifth wheels have so much more square footage and are much taller like a semi trailer that you really gotta keep an eye on them. It appears to be a new TT, if he was a delivery person it would have been an unloaded trailer adding to the probability of it going over and speed may have played a factor also

What gets me about this is the truck right behind him just drove off. Maybe it's just me but I would NEVER leave the scene of an accident regardless how minor it was unless I knew everyone was okay. Maybe another reason to consider a TT pjhauk.

That's after it flipped. The torque would have popped it off the ball before flipping that dually with it.

That was a pretty large TT at that. Also, at the end, it doesn't look like any sort of hitch other than a drawbar was used. I doubt it would have helped with wind tipping it though.
