I can verify the FX4 package does not include a 4.30 rear, maybe in some other configuration, possibly a gasser, but not in a diesel dually.

I would recommend a air bag setup on any heavy duty truck. I have a 250 and it was harsh to ride in over ruff roads. As soon as I installed the bags I had a noticeable improvement over the stock setup. It connects the axle to the frame and cushions the ride. I run 10 to 12 lbs empty and 60 to 67 loaded.
As for gears I have the 3.31's and I'm impressed at how well the truck handles a load. It accelerates better than I expected with those gears.
I get about 18 empty on the highway and have seen 20. However loaded I got 12.2 pulling my 20 Montana 3280RL.

The last time I tried to configure a diesel F350 DW on the Ford website, and selected the 3.73 gears with FX4, the site wouldn't let me. Whenever I selected FX4 it would select 4.30 gears. I decided if I wanted a 4x4 it would not be a FX4.
Maybe it has changed?

I went to the Ford website and you are right. Either they changed it for 2016, or I am confused as usual. I was building a 2015. I remember getting a bit frustrated with Ford. I wanted the FX4, but not the 4.30 gears.

I know in the past that site can be confusing. I havent tried to build a 2016. 3.73 has been the only rear end offered in a dually for quite some time and is really all that is needed. FX4 has always been available. Dually 3.73 with FX4 is what I have. To get the 4.30 you have to select the high capacity tow package which also includes the wide front axle like the f450. Standard f350 dually with 3.73 tows like 23,000 and high capacity bumps it to 27000 I think, I can't keep track of it. F450 includes 19.5 inch wheels which look badass, wide front axle, and the 4.30 and tows something like 30k plus. I love the look of the F450 but my standard f350 dually is already more than I really need.

So, how does your rig respond when you push your slow down button? I've got a real exhaust retarder on my 7.3 (Pacbrake) and man it REALLY will slow you down. I can come down a 6% grade and never touch my brakes...... very comforting .
My exhaust brake works great on my 2015 F450, much better than the 2011 F250 I had. I forgot what it was called on the 2011 but the 2015 is a huge improvement. It has to be in the 'tow mode'' then just tap the brake and it works great. I hardly use my brakes, if at all, while descending on steep grades while towing. There were times I had to hit the accelerator because it slowed me down to much. I can tell a big difference with decelerating just with the 4.3 when letting off the accelerator when I'm not towing.

I was able to buy my F450 for about the same price as I would have paid for the F350 DRW's I was looking at. I'm averaging about 9-10 mpg towing and 17 driving back and forth to work.

Was stationed at Biloxi for a while and watched C130 hurricane hunters all day. After that I was a tech on the F4E Phantom fighter jets. Even got a ride one day. We did everything except break the sound barrier, inverted, dives, spins, even let me take the stick at 12000 feet. Coolest thing I ever did. And yeah he got me sick, which was his goal from the start.

F4 is one of my all time favorite airplanes. I would have loved to have gotten a ride in one, must have been an incredible experience.

I think the saying was "the F4 is proof that with enough horsepower you can make a rock fly" .
Definitely a unique sound when it buzzes a Navy destroyer at what seems 50 ft. off the deck. Ooops, change of trousers required!

As an enlisted avionics tech I was very lucky indeed. One of my top 10 moments. That was 30 years ago. It was simply a reward type flight, there was no operational necessity for it. I wonder if they would allow that today with all our over regulation, liability worries, and wasteful lawsuits.

Are you talking about towing or empty? I love my bags when towing but they definitely stiffen my truck up too much when empty even with min. psi.
